Wives/girlfriends and flying

How does your spouse/partner relate to your flying

I know years ago mine very patient wife mentioned that maybe it was time to hang up the flight suit, and insinuated it was either her or the flying....
when I told her I would miss her loads she relented, and has been great about it ever since (the odd bribe goes a long way as well )

Had to buy a ballistic parachute to keep her happy. I try and talk down all the recent accidents that made the front page of the paper. At least this week's article in Die Burger about the Bundu Bash helped the propoganda war.

Having a little one (17 month old girl who is the apple of Dad's eye) didn't help the cause, so cut-back on week-end golf, got the missus to buy in to the fixed wing microlight idea and make sure that she comes up to the airfield on Sunday's for breakfast and social after I have flown.
She isn't keen on the Trike concept but accepts that I will be flying them for a while. Maybe one day she will come up for a flight.

My wife has always supported my hobbies. She had an absolute paranoia about flying and when I finally got her into the plane on a perfect day she enjoyed it. She hasn't insisted on going again and I won't pressure her but she is content that it is safe. My youngest daughter had the same issues and after her first flight is now is begging me to take her flying again this afternoon. :D

A wise man once said, you never, never, never buy a single seat car, motor bike, plane, jetski. This would be considered a very selfish thing to do. Even if your wife will never fly with you, there is always that available empty seat.

I must say: "I'm Single" ! I get to fly anyday, anytime, anywhere!! I'm probably to scared for the change if I listen to you guys.

I don't understand?? When they are single, they love flying and kissing "Pilots"! What goes wrong once they get married??

My better half, only likes flying "if it's calm and warm, and you don't spend half the bl00dy day day drinking coffee and talking bout stuff i have no interest in". Basically, I go early, fly till midday, go home, say I got caught in a stiff headwind on my way back, sorry I'm late, then it's all cool. Then we generally sit at home, picking our noses, waiting for the next morning.

I learn't one thing very early in my marraige. Never exceed their expectations. Don't for once arrive home inadvertantly early when you have said it will take X hours. This creates a precident. So, tell her that flying does take 4 hours on a saturday morning, even though you might only fly for one. Fiddle on the plane, talk BS to the other guys, go have coffee at the clubhouse. In that way they are never dissapointed and you will have the time to do the services etc.
