Nice one Duck.

Is there any instrumentation on the aircraft like EGT - that may provide some clues too if fitted.

Hi Guys

First i would like to say thank all for you advice and input its been good. Just to clearify a bit the engine when it went to idle it did not stop carried on running when i opened the throttle you could hear the carbs opening but there was no acceleration no change was heard with the choke on or off, i also pulled the hand throttle sounded the same as when i opened the foot throttle but still no acceleration of the motor. After landing engine was still running i stopped the aircraft and opened the throttle and the engine worked fine. I have replaced all the fuel hoses and the vacum hose for the pump. This dose not happen every flight it happens maybe after an hour or two of flying

This sounds to me like fuel starvation.

My first look would be at the breather valve in the tank. Does it get air in, or does your engine suck the fuel out until you have a nice vacuum inside your tank. That would cause the symptoms that you are describing.
