The new d69 had me thinking Yesterday flying from Wellinton to Voelvlei dam in a northern direction, on the eastern side of the road (R44) at 1000ft.
According to the map (http://xplorer.co.za/local/fad69/index.html) i must be on 124.800 because the eastern side of the road is 124.800 and the western side of the road 124.200.
Now according to the MAP I had to use 124.800
My Garmin GPS with Jul 2011 update shows the D69 area. The corner boundary point is the same as the map, but the eastern border is marked with a straight line between the point (not following the road R44) on the eastern border.
Now according to the GPS I had to use 124.200
Now this is unclear and can result in me, flighing slow (trike) on the right or wrong FREQ for 20-30 min in that corridor and that another plane flying in the same route be on the other frek (Map 124.200 or GPS 124.800)
At this stage i fly according to the GPS bonderies but do every 10min a broadcast on the other freq also.
Advice ?

Re: Stellenbosch flying area (delta 69) - QUESTION Freq ?
AIP supplement S067/10 http://xplorer.co.za/local/fad69/attachment-s067-10.pdf shows the eastern border of FAD69B as following the road, so looks like the GPSinfo is wrong. Looks like 124.8 should be your frequency if routing from Wellington to the Voelvlei Dam. The AIP would always take legal priority over the GPS info.
The Western Cape has become a bit crazy with all the various frequencies and airspaces. I still have to look them up often to make sure I am on the right frequency.

Re: Stellenbosch flying area (delta 69) - QUESTION Freq ?
The problem is that the gps does not follow the map road - there is a difference on the east and western borders.
The problem is a lot use the eastern corridor between the R44 and the mountain to fly north /south.
My commonsense tell me most pilot is going to fly on the GPS info.
I'll keep (TIBA) on both channels for the time being.
Thanks

Just dont fly close to the boundary. There is still a lot of traffic in that area on the wrong frequency. If you have dual watch, check them both to be safe.

Also beware of the FAP38 on that route. You have to be 2000ft or higher if you go directly over it. Its a couple of nms south of Voelvlei.

Wargame - thanks but on the eastern boundary you don't have much of a chose because you are channelled between mountain and the boundary and have to evade FAP38 (the armoury)
Thanks guys

Re: Stellenbosch flying area (delta 69) - QUESTION Freq ?
That begs the question...Why don't CAA use visual markers as guidance to mark these airspaces. Eg West of the R44 is 124.2 and east is 124.8. Sometimes it makes use of visual markers eg the N7, west boundary, but not allways.
Just wondering...
