Would it be worth it? Importing!

Postby angelwingsthesecond » Mon Sep 05, 2011 9:54 pm

Hey guys serious question.

Please check this out. http://www.afors.com/index.php?page=adv ... 985&imid=1 It's a streak shadow.

At the current exchange rate this works out to about 59k, would it be worth buying this and shipping it here? Has anyone done this before? What would the import duties be and very rough shipping estimate?

Would appreciate your advice and insight.

Thanks,

Jason.

Really? Why would there be no import charges?
So I would only pay the price advertised plus whatever it would cost in shipping?

Interesting post Jason.

Would also like to hear from guys that have imported from the states. And if so who they used and ball park figures.
Some of those microlight prices look very favourable.

The only duties to pay are 14% VAT on 110% of the declared value. So for R60k, you will pay 14% on R66k, or R9,240.

A container from the US to SA is around USD10k (so you had better hope you can share a container with someone). Freight from central US states to a costal port can easily come to USD5k. Maintenance in the US is 'on condition', so CAA will require you to do any manufacturer recommended maintenance that is not already signed out in the log book.

Ok but in this instace it would be coming from the UK, so are there any issues if coming from UK with regards to CAA requirements here locally? And it would make sense to share a container at these prices.

Thanks for the info though Justin. Appreciated.

Hi Jason
Speak to Andrew at Wings Park , he imported his Streak from the UK last December and went through the whole process. Quite a bit of paperwork and organizing involved with a number of CAA frustrations but still seemed worth it
