This past Saturday a gaggle of 4 Gyro’s and a RV fixed wing flew to Blue Max for a braai breakfast. With the RV and the first three Gyro’s leaving from Springs we greeted the traffic heading to the Zynkraal fly in where after the 4th Gyro (MAK) joined us in the air from Kitty. Old no.7 was also just airborne out of Kitty and joined the formation to show us his Christmas lights but he turned back shortly after to honor his initial commitments.
It was a lekka destination for a typical Gyro Saturday morning flying out of Johannesburg. The destination gravel runway at Elands (S 25 02 145 E 029 07 928) is smoother than the tar at Springs… for a soft, flat and safe landing in the Bosveld.
On the way back the RV and some of the Gyro’s routed via Loskop dam and flew the breathtaking gorge (S 25 02 145 E 029 07 928) while the RV kept an eagle's eye from the top.
One on board with a full tank of fuel in the ELA was in range for the return, but extra fuel was taken for incase...
