Dankie vir jou post Johan. It's really great like you mentioned that you still get service like the guys from Zulu. In my profession I often walk into a similar wall when it comes to international products sold locally. The service is simply not the same and when an item needs attention you have to send it back to the agents at huge cost. Will certainly give them a good look at.

My new lightspeed Zulu 2 headsets have arrived on the day and hour as promissed by the Lightspeed sales team.
These headsets are to my mind, simply the best aviation headsets on the market. The new ultra silent ANR technology that they have incorporated is really unbelievable. When a pilot transmits from another aircraft it feels as though he is sitting next to me and I can even hear his pax breathing in the background
Jokes aside. For me; I have finally discovered the absolute ultimate in headsets. I would like someone in an open Gyro to test fly this product to see if the result is the same as my experience in the enclosed cockpit.
If this is so I cannot see any reason why all that fly our wonderful machines in South Africa should not own a pair of Lightspeed Zulu2's. They are more than worth the investment. The bluetooth for mobile phone and I pod works incredibly well and the new stereo sound enhancer beats any surround sound system hands down. Comfort 10/10 and then to top it all... it is a beautiful set !
If you love your gyro flying like me... you aint experienced anything yet until you fit a pair of Zulu 2 headsets over your ears. Man !! way to go
Why am I going on like this about this product ? Simply because I received excellent after sales service and support on a product that has enhanced my aviation experience.

Greetings All.

I have to concur with Flynote - the service from Lightspeed is excellent. I also enquired at a local "dealer" here on the East Rand, and was advised that the cost for 2 headsets after a discount would be R19,940.31, and I have to wait for the shipment to arrive.
I got onto the web and placed my order for the Zulu2 at $900 each, plus $96.84 for shipping which would have the headsets at my door in 3 days and at a total cost of ...... wait for it .......R12,784.00 for TWO. That's a massive R7,000 saving and service of note!!!!

I would love to hear from old no 7 how the anr copes with the open environment/wind noise. I have no experience of the Zulus in this environment. Dave Clarkes in the helmets worked fine so Im sure the Zulus would as well but lets see what my Ex SABC colleague has to say on his return from Oshkosh.In the Xenon and other enclosed machines I will vouch for the Zulus. If same goes for open tandems , the Zulu2 will be a winner. Now we must just sort our radios out !!

Ok Johan, here it is.
I completely stripped out my existing Lynx intercom, harness and headsets and wired GA headset plugs directly onto the MGL radio harness.
The MGL radio is another gem which I will rave about in a separate post. Not only does it have dual band monitoring, it has its own intercom functionality, directly onto the radio so no separate plug boxes etc. as well as an aux in to plug in your ipod or GPS warning alarms. But as I said, the MGL deserves its own thread.

Back to the Zulu II's.
Paid $900 x 2 = just over R12k for both and got a pair of Aviator sunglasses (allegedly valued at $350) thrown in for free.
Without a doubt, THE MOST COMFORTABLE headset I have ever put on. (Admittedly I have not used DC's before)
Even without the ANR switched off, the passive noise reduction is quite effective because of the perfect seal that the gel earpieces offer.
Switch the Active Noise Reduction on and you enter a whole new world. I can see guys wearing these things at home to reduce, no ELIMINATE, the "Active Noise" generated by spouses, children and babies.

In the gyro, my transmission(TX) quality has significantly improved from "sounding hollow" to 5/5

The open cockpit does however have its challenges.
While idling or taxiing the ANR still works perfectly. I keep looking back to see if my prop is turning
Once you open up the throttle the engine noise does open the mic and you do get a lot of noise through the intercom.
I then played with my VOX settings and got to the point where the mic did not pick up any of the ambient wind and engine noise and I was transformed into a new world.
Never before have I flown without my ears being pummeled by the constant engine and wind noise. But now, I have a totally new and even more pleasurable flying experience.
In my first trials the Pax mic is still picking up a lot of wind and the VOX settings need to be set so high that it is not practical.
I have however re-introduced the "Kill " on/off switch which I had in my old system which cuts the PAX mic when they do not wish to talk. The PAX just opens or closes the switch when they want to speak or not.

The other incredible feature which some pilots may choose not to use is the bluetooth feature linked to your cellphone.
I know many pilots say that when they fly, they fly and do not want to be bothered by cellphones. I agree, but see my cellphone as an additional safety feature which can be used to find out what weather / mist conditions are at your destination, or simply to phone ahead to clear animals off runways etc.

I am truly impressed with my Lightspeed Zulu II's and will shortly have a complete Lynx set-up on the classifieds section.
