I also do it, but it does put an extra load on the pylon and under cart. Especially if the runway is bumpy.

Hi Boomarang.

I did the mod on my Raptor with rear hydraulic disk brakes and I would do it again if I bought another trike.

The loops to jump through:
1. Have your drawings ready for the modification with all brackets.
2. Apply to CAA for mod and pay your fees
3. If CAA approves your drawings they will give you a temporary mod number
4. Do the mod and have an AP inspect the work and submit paperwork to CAA for proving flight authority with the applicable fees (They clapped me with 10 hours)
5. After 10 hours proving flights submit copies of flight folio to CAA with an AP inspection after which the temporary mod number becomes a final mod number.
6. Full inspection by AP and apply for normal authority to fly with the relevent fees again.

CAA also take their time with issuing the mod number so don't start the mods unless you don't want to fly for a few months

I used the front disks and calipers from a quad and had collars machined and fixed to the rim to mount the disk's on. Master cylinder was from the same make of quad, but used the rear wheel master cylinder.

Good luck.

That's just plain dumb. Someone at CAA not applying the grey matter............
This is a mod for what?...........BRAKES! What's 10 hours flying time going to prove?
Should maybe have been restricted to a whole lot of stops or landings in order to test the brakes.........
Airspeed, altitude, or brains....you always need at least two

Boomarang

Forgot to mention 1st hour and last hour of the proving flights have to be flown by a test pilot, which CAA did not mention till after the hours had been flown. When asked CAA where the f@ck I was supposed to find a test pilot for a trike in the Eastern Cape, they relented and accepted an instructor. Instructor ended up flying 2 hours extra over and above the ten hour proving flight time. As far as I am concerned CAA needs a complete clean out, get rid of all the idiots who probably don't even know what an aircraft looks like and replace with retired / medically unfit ex pilots who would at least know what the hell the front end of an aircraft looks like from it's rear.

I asked the same question about the ten hours proving flights when they stipulated it as it was the dumbest idea I had ever heard. :x :!:
