Hi guys
I'm trying to find another used Rotax 912, internationally, and can only find one in the States that had a prop-strike. Why are these things so scarce? Because they never break? Because Rotax destroys the ones they trade in? Because they are not fruitful and do not multiply?
Am I being stupid when I buy a used one, especially if it has to undergo TBO overhaul, now or in the new future?
Help!!! Please.

What happens to ex-TBO Rotax 912's?
Re: What happens to ex-TBO Rotax 912's?
Hi Trigger_na, good question, when it came time for me to look for an engine for my Bushbaby, I considered a rebuilt 912, but even Aviation Engines said that they are just not available.
One thing is that they last forever, the current one's are now good for 2 000 hours.
I am pretty certain that a lot of them are still attached to the airframes of planes that have not flown in years, and the owners are reluctant to sell just the engine, as that makes the plane even more difficult to sell if it comes to that.

When they come to TBO - just like any other engine - you do the overhaul and it's good for another 2000 hours...You don't take it off and throw it away...
Nuts about Cheetahs. Petit is the place.
