Radio License or compentent
I am busy to buy a radio from the states.Spoke the other day to Willem @ raasa and he said that i must registrate at iacasa(maybe got it wrong) for the handheld on my trike.I don't want to get in the same trouble as the guy thats in the court for plane spotting.Any advice?Do I need it?Advice for new pilot please!

Hi Johan,
I also went though this a while ago with RAASA and the confusion comes in when you do your radio exam while completing your training... as I have done earlier this year.
In your licence book, there will be a small section that says you have "shown competency in the handling of RT equipment". (I thought this was a radio licence at the time.)
This IS NOT a radio license... all the exam did was teach you how to use the radio.
If you want to purchase (new or second hand) a radio, then you have to apply to Icasa for a base station license. Even for a hand held! And of course, you will have to pay them a fee.
In my view, it is a completely pointless excersise but hey... we unfortunately dont make the rules...
