Garmin 296 Battery

Postby OzGyro » Thu Jun 09, 2011 5:37 pm

Hi All

I received a Garmin 296 with the gyro I just purchased. When I went to charge the unit it came up with the message Battery Missing. From what I have googled it seems this means the battery needs replacing. Question is where in JoBurg can I get a replacement battery ASAP??

Cheers

I recall a thread on either Microlighters or Avcom about just that, a search should pick it up.
There was an easy fix if I remember right.
Good luck!

Hi Darren,

This is what to do http://forums.gps.org.nz/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4131

Instead of a fancy charger I connected a big EverReady PM9 9volt battery for half an hour and then reaseambled the 296 battery and put the unit on charge overnight.

No problems in 4 months.

Enjoy your new gyro (^^)

Hi All

Thanks Claude for the info, will give that idea a try during the week. Next problem, does anyone know where I can an antenna (the small one that attaches direct to the unit) from??

Cheers
Darren
