Re: North meets South 2011 - Gariep 20-22 May 11, 73 GYRO'S
We at Wagtail would like to convey our congratulations to the organizing committee.
Again we learned a lot and from this experience can only improve.
One gladdening fact is that the ladies, who attended for the first time, had a great time and
thoroughly enjoyed the event as well. Our sport is so much more enjoyable when we can
share it with our loved ones.
We also wish to thank the sponsors and all our fellow aviators who so generously
supported the auction to help a fellow pilot in need.
I would like to share the following with you:
As you know,I was given a GPS from the sponsors and on our way back I tried to use it.
It soon became clear to me that I will HAVE to read the manual before I could operate it
properly. I handed it back to my wife, but omitted to switch it off. Just after Edenburg
going north we noticed what appeared to be a runway. I went to investigate and saw it
was indeed a runway with a large hangar. I did an inspection and routed for New
Tempe. On arriving back home in Pretoria I discovered that the GPS had recorded
our flight track and I was able to obtain the exact coordinates off the GPS. Thank you
Mr. Butch Brown. This is a private runway but we may be able to make use
of it for refueling emergencies,etc. (S29,50288 E 25,97998)
I intend to post some pictures and a story or two soon.

Wie worry oor spelling - jy kan mos vlieg! En baie beter as wat ander ouens kan spel...
The person who says it can't be done should not interrupt the person doing it.

Dankie Tinkerbell.

There are those in the Wagtail group(they know who they are)that lays claim to my new supersonic GPS."THEY" feel they are more deserving.I just want to inform "THEM" that it would take considerable effort and a lot of pain.

Gents
Earlier this month, after finally seeing the light, I obtained my gyro rating. I would however like to pass a comment to all you gyronaughts /gyro people / gyro pilots - above all gyro enthusiasts.
In my 25 years of aviation I have never come across a group of individuals so passionate and enthusiastic about the aircraft they operate, it doesn't matter what type it is as long as it's a gyro! Some groups in aviation can talk the talk, but you guys really take the walk to a different level. When one scrolls through this Gariep thread, one can sense the true excitement amongst you all - it's absolutely wonderful to see, for me it brings a new excitement to aviation. Well done to the organisers and above all, well done o those who made the event by attending, it's remarkable that so many flew so far to be united.
I"m honoured to now be part of such an enthusiastic group, thank you for your acceptance, until the next big event - fly safely.

WOW! What a HUGE compliment guys.
SteveH is an Airforce trained Helicopter Pilot, an Airline Transport Pilot (Training Captain) with 11k+ hours of pushing BIG tin for one of the worlds leading international airlines, and owns his own Sting.
For this airman to say this about our humble little group is most gratifying and an immense compliment.
Thanks Steve! We're honoured to count you as one of us.

He has seen the light and already owns his own MT. He has passed his final flight test and is awaiting the paperwork. So he is already one of us, just couldnt make Gariep.
Steve, best you book the dates in your roster the moment they are announced. You can't miss the next one!

HI
To all the aviators that joined us for the weekend , I want to thank you , its people like you that makes weekends like these a great success.
The ground crews and just visiting family and friends , you too are more than welcome , and we will build on this side of our sport to have our families more involved .
Yes the weekend was a great success , but we learned allot , and I want to thank every pilot that took the time to complete the questionnaire of what you would like .
If I go by the responses , We will try Gariep again next year , but we will certainly listen to your request and plan accordingly .
Again thanks to everybody that helped .
Those that did not received the Gariep badge get in contact with me , I still have one or two
Just the winners again .
Ugliest Gyro – Kriek
