The great thing about getting older is that you don't have to prove yourself anymore.

Yes George ,that is right . As far as i know ,any person with a 3axis (CCM) microlight licence can apply to RAASA on renewal for a NPL, with which it is possible to fly LSA.

Re: LSA and MPL weight limits.
LSA - 3 axis, 600kgs MTOW, 2 seater, 120kts, 45kts or less, fixed gear!
CCM - 3 axis, 450kgs MTOW, 2 seater....
Does that sound about right?

Not quite - LSA is up to 150kts, and can be retractable.John Boucher wrote:LSA - 3 axis, 600kgs MTOW, 2 seater, 120kts, 45kts or less, fixed gear!

CCM has an empty weight limit too - I think 260kg?

George,
Based on the RAASA website as per the following: http://www.raasa.co.za/images/PDF/pilot ... gories.pdf the following requirements must be met for CCM to LSA
20 hrs credit
min 5 hrs solo
1 dual & 1 solo flight into controlled airport
2 X countries Dual & Solo 90 min
Nav test 90 min + 1 away full stop
Exams LSA
Skills test Grade A or B instr
The table also contains the requirements for converting to other types.
Hope it helps

Re: LSA and MPL weight limits.
Sort of confusing ....
Let's say I did my CCM on a Cheetah (Z194) and off we go to LSA on the same aircraft (would that now be X254). Then I have to do a lot of the stuff over. Does not affect me as I have a PPL but....

Re: LSA and MPL weight limits.
Yip, that why I was wondering. Take high time CCM pilot who has plensh hrs on "these" type of aeries. Are RAASA able to take that into account? Say for eg a CCM instructor wants to convert to LSA now (I know they did it before) can they still convert to LSA status or do they have to be retested?

Well George... I have decided to become a Part 62 instructor - LSA & CCM. Have been in comms with a local school and will be using my Cheetah for the training. Just off on a business trip this morning and will give you the ins and outs when I get back and have more pertinent gen

Re: LSA and MPL weight limits.
Congrats & good luck...
I been trying to do same for 3 years (Riaan was going to do mine when he did Andy's but life got in the way). Time, but more so a flight school close to me is a problem. I want to build an LSA with my kids (Sonex leading at this stage) and would then like to train my kids to fly and maybe also get some more little wheel drivers out there. I have 2 LSA aeries which can be used for the job....
PS
If there are any schools near Harties HBV who are willing to assist in getting a Blik driver the LSA patter please drop me a line. Need not be on taillie, but that would be a bonus... Needs to be close to where I am and flexible in terms of training times. I travel a great deal, but often have a couple hours in week when things are quiet or Govt officials don;t pitch for a meeting or cancel a couple hrs before...

Re: LSA and MPL weight limits.
Short answer, Jabiru cannot be flown on a CCM rating.
