60% failure rate!
A few weeks ago, I had my annual inspection done.
Roy Gregson, and Gavin Lundy pointed out an interesting fact.
We had a look at the rotary valve oil bottle on five trikes. Three of them were fitted incorrectly.
The oil flows in a specific direction. There is a tube on the inside of the bottle where the oil is supposed to return. If the bottle is on the wrong way, and your oil level is low, the rotary valve cannot be lubricated.
Interesting eh!

Re: 60% failure rate!
It has an "inlet" and "outlet", so to speak. Go and have a careful look at one and you'll seenicow wrote:How can the bottle be on the wrong way?

Airspeed, altitude, or brains....you always need at least two
Re: 60% failure rate!
Pic attached - you see, if the bottle is the other way around, oil will only go to the valve if if it is full to the top..
My thoughts are this could explain some valve seizures ?

Re: 60% failure rate!
I noted during inspections that sometimes the bottle LOOKS full, but then is`nt. A level layer of sludge on the inside creates an illusion that the bottle is full, when in fact the oil level is waaaay down low. Take the cap off and CHECK VISUAL. The only way.

Re: 60% failure rate!
Good day Gentlemen,
Please help, I’m new to this and would like to know
Just out of curiosity,
Who supply these little oil Bottles
Eg. (Is this a Rotax specific bottle
)
What damage can come of this
NL. (Inlet tube (4) and Return (5) changed around)
Must the Inlet (4) be connected to the bottom of the engine
And the return pipe from the top of the valve to the bottle
Regards
JHA

Yes this is a ROTAX specific bottle and you are looking at Ouchie price for Plastic bottleWho supply these little oil Bottles![]()

Valve could sieze and ultimately the fan can go very quiet behind you and then OUCHIE on the Pocket. What damage can come of this![]()

Not 100% Sure but as what i can figure from the pic i would say the return pipe must be from the top of the Motor.Must the Inlet (4) be connected to the bottom of the engine![]()
And the return pipe from the top of the valve to the bottle![]()
