On removing the cover plate on the magneto end of my blue top 582 with an "E" box to do a prop strike inspection I found what I now know to be the "Liquid damper assembly" (part no 17 on the attached diagram). This was found to be loose as though the retaining bolts had fallen out but there was no sign of them within the enclosed section. The assembly appears to have three holes in it where it looks like attachment bolts should go. The motor is still attached to the aircraft so it is a bit hard to have a good look at what is going on in the back area. The diagram also shows Part No. 20, a starting pulley, that I don't have so I don't know whether I am supposed to have the Liquid damper either. I don't know whether the damper came loose as a result of the prop strike or whether it has come loose due to incorrect assembly or vibration. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Johnny

Re: Rotax 582 - what does this part do?
Ok, I had a look at a clearer copy of the exploded view drawing and have seen that the damper is held on by three 8 x 16mm hex screws. This still doesn't explain what happened to mine though as there is no sign of the bolts having rattled around in the casing. The motor is almost new and has never been opened to the best of my knowledge. Gremlins!
