Fuel Filter

Postby gertcoetzee » Mon Dec 07, 2009 4:36 pm

When flying at Aurora I can either drive 40 minutes to get fuel at Piketberg, or buy locally. I buy locally, and this is the result...

Gert. Dirk and I had a similar problem on Saturday with DizZY. Not as much contaminants as yours but enough to power drop at about 5500RPM. I had refuelled with new fuel from a well used petrol station. I have not yet opened up the filter but will do so. I hope this is not a trend as far as fuel quality is concerned. Needless to say we did replace the filter before flying out. Glenn.

Hi guys

I refuel my aircraft without exception with the help of Mr Funnel. This filter has a very fine mesh, traps undiluted water as well as contaminants like this.

Comet aviation sells it:

Agreed - Mr Funnel is the answer

I use it at the filling station as I am filling my jerry can - Takes a little longer, but worth it

I also agree - the last time I filled up using my funnel I noticed water in the funnel sump. Goes to show that you can't trust the gas you get from the garage.

Have you noticed how irritated the pump jockeys get that it takes so long to fill up 2 cans? Agreed - still worth it. I have the mid sized one, considering buying the big one when I have to lug 120 liters to the hangar to fill up my 750. I am also thinking of buying a small bowser.
