Now I know why you do it...

Postby Scotsman » Tue Feb 15, 2011 7:30 pm

Well, after a long time playing around in fixed wing aircraft for a number of years, I finally went up in a weight shift at Microland (courtesy of a voucher from the wife for Christmas). Before I had actually flown in one myself I really wondered what the attraction was (I thought it might a fetish with the jump suit thing  ).

Really enjoyed the 30 min flip of real flying (thanks Larry). The experience was pretty awesome...you really feel the feedback of the aircraft and the weather conditions. The whole "reversed" controls issue battles my small brain a bit but I suppose you would get used to it pretty quickly. Nice to actually be able to see the ground as well (I fly low wings in general) and dangle the feet in the slip stream. I was a bit surprised of how large the control movements are on landing and takeoff.

I am talking to the converted so I'll shut up now.

I'm a 3axis man myself, but weight shift flying is as close to flying like the birds that we humans can come!
Quite an amazing experience and as you mentioned, a very different experience from flyin 3axis!

The knack [to flying] lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.

Trike flying is the best experience you can have with clothes on!
