Ok DR I will give that a go....I was thinking that the I/D of the tube was to narrow to let the bubbles rise....its the same type of tube used for carb vents...quite narrow.

Yours is narrow (maybe too much) that's why the surface friction/tension is holding it back

I think that may have well be the prob anyway I have ditched the water idea....I was worried it maybe sucked into the engine....I have replaced it with what we call over here in the UK...turpentine or white spirit....its still qite a thin liquid and almost as soon as I injected it the bubbles came to the surface,

I didn't fill to the 1mt head of water mark though just a bit less, hopfully try it tomorrow.

Good results....gave the gauge a test today...worked a treat and very sensitive to small adjustments the instructions only mention checking at idle speed and part open throttle....would make any sense to also check at cruise RPM or would the fact that both throttles open in unison be sufficient at just above idle...
