Flying African Skies an awesome DVD - who wants one?
Do you recall the call for contributions to make the DVD for the World Cup MISASA promotion? Anyway we got some fantastic footage contributed and made the DVD - back then! Then we waited then we begged for contributors to send in their required credits - this was not to be and I called it quits today and finalised it. It follows routes from Cape Town to Cairo and back down the West Coast - it goes to Mozambique then up the coast to Tanzania across to Malawi and down through central Africa via Vic Falls etc. It flies you from Jhb over the cosmos and the Drakensberg to Dbn and then down the South Coast and Wild Coast. It "does" Namibia the Kalahari and more... The theme is "Flying African Skies" and is offered as selectable routes and it draws from various contributors so for some of the journey you will be in a LSA and next in a trike but always in a microlight. ABSOLUTELY AWESOME.
Ok - now what do we do with it? An idea was to include it in the next Misasa Magazine but I fear that there will no longer be a magazine as we are 6 weeks past the last deadline and we have just about zero content from members - so it seems the mag is dead. Maybe we should, with your best wishes, send it to junior schools so that when your trike is ready for replacement there will be a batch of buyers leaving school! Maybe you have some suggestions?
Fly safe,
Nemo
PS - in every mag we request entries for the photo competition. We have given away complete pilot/pax Air Magic helmets and headsets, wireless PTT's, Spanner sets and other prizes. We have not had one picture sent in in 9 months so I've sent the prizes back. The next photo received gets my best wishes!

Seems to be a general state of apathy regards flying. Hav'nt seen any adventurous trips reported and the social breakfasts also seem to have dried up.
Maybe the okes who do fly take k@k photos or are'nt comfortable doing write-ups, but its a pity. This summer is probably the worst, weather wise.
Hope the local clubs are active but from here it looks to be dying.
Send the disc instead of the mag and hopefully motivate someone.

I think the weather played a huge part in the "breakfast fly inn’s" drying up.
But have a look on the forum under the "flying event" and there is a definitive pick up
Just a few of hand
"Breakfast anyone"
"Fly away Sibaka"
"Gauteng Natal Mpumalanga trip"
"Breakfast fly inn Brits"
"Tailwheels to Nylstroom"
And allot more
It will be a shame if the mag is running dead as it’s like Christmas every time it arrives at the post office
Personally I would love a copy of the DVD and will even pay for it

I will send you some of the pictures after the Sibaka fly inn and a small progress report on the Gauteng Natal trip that will be discussed at the Sibaka Bosperaad maybe this will get everybody more involved in the magazine and we can save the best Microlight mag.

Would love one, even if I have to pay. The Magazine is like Christmas in the post box and was said.
Why not make a call on the Forum, asking for contributions, before the articles run out for the magazine.
This would be a shame. I agree, send the DVD instead of the magazine if that is what is needed.

I am VERY interested in doing some expedition type flying - THAT'S why I bought an aerie!

Re: Flying African Skies an awesome DVD - who wants one?
I've been doing the mag for many years and each year it gets more difficult to get in contributions.
If each member sends in 1 page including a picture every 4 years we would have more than enough content.
Maybe we should only send the mag and the DVD to those that have sent in 1 page over the last five years.
Seems like a reasonable solution - what do you think?
