Hi guys.
I know this is not quite the forum for this question, but a lot of you guys on here are PPL's as well.
So I don't know about you, but according to CAA my ability to communicate in English expired at the end of January!!!
Any help on where to go or who to contact to get a test done would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: Language Proficiency
As did mine...
If you have a LRP4 it has expired. (Funny that ICAO only requires it on international flights, but CAA want it for all.)
I spoke to someone in licensing (after 40 min hold) and that was the story. I will attempt it on Friday or Monday and report back...

These are your options...
Certified copy of Matric with D or better in English or
Certified copy of grad degree obtained in the English Medium (?) And
Affidavit to say that you do not suffer from a speech impediment Or
LRP course @ R750 from a Flight school reg'd with CAA...
And the usual bucks R220
And in theory that gives you a LRP 6?

Re: Language Proficiency
That is the way I have it as well...
The Matric with a D or better is for English First language. What about English Second language? Must that be a C or better?
Here in the sticks we only use English for self defense...
I will wait for your report.
Good luck

Re: Language Proficiency
The ICAO request for proffieselisensie teots was for international flights only.
If you do not fly cross border, no test rekwaaird. It only applaais to internattional fights.
Our CAA however not yet up to speed becaus They want(ed) to apply it to all RSA GA.
Would not warrie baie or too much on this ding.
PS: Avcom has a thread going on this.

Re: Language Proficiency
I tested because I could not find my Matric Certificate and quite frankly did not see my way clear for a prolonged hoooooo-haaaaaaa with CAA. They could quite easily say - seeing that your LPR is not valid... you licence is not valid and let me say that is what's going to happen until some twat twiddling his thumbs wakes up!
So, I am now LPR6 not to be tested again...

A group test was arranged and they travelled to Kuruman ( I was in Postmasburg for business) and then to Upington from there...
I think the chaps at APTRAC in PE are doing it for free for February only (excludes the R 220 that must go to CAA)

Re: Language Proficiency
This is one thing I also don't understand. Over the last year or so we had some Europeans (Not English speaking) with PPL's coming for some tailwheel training and I was amazed at how bad some of these okes spoke English. Ek is 'n boertjie and my English is more understandable. My point is that these okes hold European PPL lisences and they can't speak proper English so why must we here in darkest Africa care about ICAO English and LRP's

Re: Language Proficiency
One of my arguments exactly... and I refer to GERMAN pilots flying in the GARIEP GLIDER AREA speaking GERMAN in the air and when spoken to in ENGLISH and they shut up and choose NOT TO REPLY....
I think CAA is farting up the wrong tree here and their interpretation proves that they too should go for a LPR test!
