Money in the bank
When i did my training my instructor said you always have to fly with money in the bank(bar in to keep the speed up). If i fly with the bar in then i do not get altitude and i have to fly for ever to look for lift.I fly a 503 windlass at alt of 4410ft ,i way 95kg and wife70kg with about 25liters of fuel. Would it help if i move the wing, at the moment it is set in the center of the holes.O yes and the temp was around 26 dec.

Re: Money in the bank
Your instructor was right but it is only neccesary just after take off. When 150-200ft or so you can slowy start pushing the bar forward and climb out at 43-45mph in the Windlass. Only fiddle with the wing when you have more flying experience, moving the wing even 1 hole will make a huge difference in the performance and when inexperienced could really test your skills. PS. At that alt with that load a 503 will not be a bullet.

Re: Money in the bank
Also landing in gusty conditions requires that you have some "money in the bank", you do not want to be flaring when a gust comes along and lifts you up, only to be follwed by a lull and all lift is lost

Re: Money in the bank
I fly a similar config and with my 70Kg's and a passanger of 90+-Kg's only once i have cleared 200feet do i start to relax and let the wing fly itself, very light hands on the wing an let it rest in a neutral position, if for any reason i go under 500 feet then i pull a bit of bar so that at anytime i have just that extra little just incase but over 500feet i let her fly normally.
Must add that the poor 503 get a real good workout when we are full fuel but it does the job nicely

Money in the bank = airspeed or height, you can trade one for the other.
Rich = having both
You never want to loose both unless you have touched down for landing.
