Skydat Airspeed Calibration

Postby Johnny Be Good » Mon Jan 17, 2011 9:09 am

Good day. Can anybody tell me how to calibrate a Skydat GX 2 so that the airspeed reads zero when the aircraft is stationary? Mine consistently seems to read around 13mph on the ground. Could this be a pitot issue rather than a calibration issue? Thanks, Johnny

Block the Pitot tube with your finger, the speed should read 0

It doesn't - that's the problem but I am in Zim so getting it back to amptronic is a bit of a problem. I will email them and see what they say. Thanks for the advice and the contact info. Johnny

Send it with DHL. Make sure that the declaration states that it is coming into South Africa for repairs and is a temporary export from Zim. Export declaration must state a value for customs. When Amptronic send it back to you they must state on their invoice that the goods were brought into SA for a repair and are being re exported. It would help if they attach a copy of your declaration and 1st DHL waybill showing the export.
This way you should not have any duty or clearing hassles.

Cheers,

Andy

Thanks Andy - I will look into that option but this is Zim we are talking about! These guys can make the easiest of jobs very difficult. I am coming down to SA in April so it may have to wait till then. Cheers

Contact Serge who manufactures it! There are pot's that you can adjust and he will tell you wich one! You'll get his number on his web site! Skydat.co.za i think!

He calibrated mine with a vacuum pump.
I don't think it is quite as simple as turning a pot.

I spoke to Serge and I have reset the skydat to the factory default settings which zeroed the airspeed on the ground. I haven't flown yet to see what it looks like in the air. JBG
