RAASA FANTASTIC SERVICE

Postby Suesing » Sun Jan 02, 2011 11:46 am

Sue Singleton would like to compliment all the staff at Raasa for your friendly and helpfull service. At long last we have an establishment where pilots can enter "without fearing to tread" and the authorities are seen to be assisting rather than trying to catch you out. This will go a long way in bolstering an ailing recreational flying industry.

I think it is fair to say that RAASA has proved the skeptics/denialists/naysayers wrong!

I support Sue's sentiments. Well done guys!

After RAASA offices opened on 3rd of Jan I submitted my license renewals to RAASA, less than 24hrs after I dropped it of at the Postnet in Bloem I had my first call from RAASA regarding an additional document that they needed, I faxed it to them immediately and by the next afternoon my license was in the post, which means that within 48hrs after I dropped my papers of at the local Couriers, both my Microlight as well as my LSA licenses were renewed and posted.

This is the best service that I ever got in almost 14 years that I am involved with aviation, RAASA exceeded all expectations and I think they set an example to CAA!

A big thumbs up to Valene, Willem and the rest of the friendly and helpfull RAASA team! vhpy

Those who read this will know that every year I get into a fight with RAASA, who charge for courier delivery, but then send my ATF snail mail. So I am quite ready to go through the same again. Little did I know that they are intending to frustrate me in a novel way this year.

I have send numerous emails to ICASA to get a renewal notice. No reply.

I then emailed RAASA to ask how ICASAs refusal to send me a renewal notice or invoice will affect my ATF application. The answer was "You can supply proof of payment made to ICASA." Go figure.

So I again wrote to RAASA saying that unless I get a notice or invoice I cannot pay, and therefor proof of payment will not be forthcoming. So, RAASAs logical (ha!) reply is "Please note that if you are struggling to contact ICASA you can also pay the license fee directly into their bank account (details are supplied below) or at the South African Post office who will supply you with a receipt which can then be used as proof of payment."

I give up. I do not know what I owe ICASA. RAASA is threatening not to renew unless I pay. Catch 22.

CAA here comes another complaint.

Is this really necessary????

Update.

I have now faxed my email to every ICASA fax number I could get. Surprise - no reply.

So I phone the switchboard. Mostly it rings. Eventualy someone answers. I get put through to an answering machine. So I repeat the above. Now I ask to be put through to the rthe CEO's office.

Get through to someone else. Hellow how are you.

The CEO is in Barcelona.

So, Mr Willem from RAASA, how do I have to convince you that the fact that I have not paid my ICASA license is not due to a lack of trying?

F&cking burocrats.

Why not just pay the R48 and get it over with?

Rob K wrote:Just received accounts for radio licenses for 3 months - all of R12.00 each.

Phoned them up to enquire the reason and a very helpful gent informed me that they altering the billing month to the there year-end month (March) hence the 3 month account.

When I suggested the typical arrangement in this circumstance is to make the following year a 15 month year - he completely understood with the usual disclaimer - "It's not me who makes these decisions".

What must it cost to bill every radio station R12.00 ???

Bunch of rocket scientists.
