Decoke Spray

Need some advise. I heard that you can remove the plugs of your Rattax motor and spray some spray in there, let it stand for a few minutes, start the machine and that it will clean your pistons from build up.

* What spray is used, where can it be sourced?
* is this method recommended or can it cause some issues?
* Any opinion/s from someone that has done this before?

I have a 582, been flying it for about a 100hrs now, and thought it might be a good time to do this now. TT 270Hrs.

Works like a charm, called a chemical decoke. There are two products I know of nl ACDelco - Combustion Chamber Cleaner and the other is a wynn's product called Compression Stabilizer.

Thanks KFA, can I find these at Midas? Will I just follow the directions like on the can?

Works like a charm....

Remember the engine must be hot, ie. run it to operating temperature. Remove the plugs and spray into chambers. Let the product work for about 15 minutes and then turn the prop by hand a few times before replacing the plugs to clear the chambers. Replace the plugs and start the engine which will cause a serious cloud of smoke Run the engine until all traces of smoke has disapeared. The job is done.

I suppose it will only work on a engine mounted with the plugs facing the wing ,for the engine mounted with the plugs facing down you could spray it into the carbs.

I use a product called 'Power Tune' , not sure who the manufacturer is. It can be purchased at any boat shop. This product is sprayed in through the carbs with the engine running , then the same procedure , leave to stand for a while , re-start , and run till the smoke clears. Used it on all the 582's i have had so far , works like a charm.

How often should this be done? How many of these cans do you use per shot?
I used the Wynns one, and after finishing the can in both cylinders they were still not
Full as indicated on the can that is should be.

Needless to sat it smoke like a monster!

Tell me can you use this Chemical Decoke on a 503? If so do you onlu use one bottle..say the Wynns Engine flush and if so does anyone know of any ill effects it might have on the motor?

Hi Guys, does anyone have a technical understanding of the principle of how this stuff works, as any build up of carbon on a piston crown, or cylinder head is hard and will not burn, ie will not give off smoike when it dissappears. Does this additive solubilize the carbon with no chance of bits damaging the head / piston / cylinder walls etc?

Lastly has anyone done a pre and post inspection where it is clear that the additive has worked, and if so, does this then count as a decoke in terms of the Rotax maintenance schedule?

Its a chemical that has been designed to target carbon build up, it does not impact you pistons,
rings or sleeves. It binds with the carbon and breaks it up. It exits your motor via the exhaust.
After I did mine, I could feel that my machine is more responsive. It fixed my original problem, which were getting altitude with 2 up, same qnh, better lift after decoke.

After decoke my performance has increased.
