Jab engine in trike

Interesting development is this 2200 adapted engine currently undergoing testing for the push application in un-cowled environment of the likes of trikes or ultra light aircraft.

I was told once that Jabi engines tend to overheat when mounted in pusher configuration which is why you don't see too many of them mounted on trikes. Any truth in this?

The cost alone of a Jabi engine over a Rotax would seem to make it a more logical choice, never mind the more pleasant, friendlier sound of a 4-stroke running a lower and more mechanically-sympathetic RPM Better than a screaming, expensive, low-TBO two-stroke any day.

Pusher is not a problem - just ask Rudix...

Very low airspeed and pusher config may be a problem - which is why Jabi is testing this forced air cooling solution.

Yeah, that makes sense. The overheating tended to happen on the ground, during taxi or while the aicraft was standing still.

The solution will be one to watch. For me it would transform the idea of microlighting - that two-stroke shriek is real turn off for me.
