My pax lecture includes vomiting to the left so we have an exhaust crepe rather than an engine out. Also where the hand crank is. The idea being in an engine out they can keep themselves busy with the handcrank while I concentrate on getting us on the ground.

Remember runway checks include checking the pax is buckled in and comfortable.

AFter take-off I normally say to pax "Do you hear that.....? "

To which they reply "No....  "

I then reply "Me neither vhpy vhpy "

Best advice to any trike pilot I can give when it comes to pax is make sure yourself that their helmet and visor is secure!! Also check safety belt personally And when there are a bunch of people to take for flips and a bunch of trikes - Always use your weight as an excuse and you will always get the hot ladies as pax, and not the prop forward with the cauliflower ears vhpy vhpy

Bundy, I think you have a very good topic here.

I like the Big D type of pax if I have to admit. Fellow Brits microlighter likes to strap in woman in his Windlass and then asks the husbands :"Wanneer laas het jy 'n ander man tussen jou vrou se bene gesien". Most men don't really smile when Mof says this. vhpy

That said:

PAX safety starts as Morph says with questions, passing of info etc.

Biggles has a fantastic concept to prevent that head-butt (admit, never would have thought about the head-butt, always thought about the PAX breaking his nose ## against my head). But I don't like your idea of drilling holes through the pylon. Maybe just a wrap-around strap with loop ends to slip through the lap belt ? Wrap once more around pylon to shorten or unwrap for the bierpens pax.

The crouch position is an interesting one I haven't thought about either. Debate please !
- Could it hamper pilot's movements ?
- Crouch in a 3 or 4 pointer belt possible ?
- Where do the legs go ?

Very valid topic though.

AndyG, Windlass with certain pax tends to keep the lower back warm.

Still working for the same boss ?

Bundy, a bit of hi-jacking, but my favourite is to ask the pax's weight when arriving at the field. Check it out yourselve, but they all lie ! Men more then woman !!!

"I weigh about 75kg". Yea, right ! My dog could have told you that you are lying !

Once the engine's running, headsets on and addrenaline starts pumping in the pax's blood you say:

"Just confirming, but very important for me for my take-off calculations, you said you were 75kg ... ?"

Then the truth comes out in a horde of replies !!!

"Ja, laas toe ek geweeg het was ek 75kg maar ek is seker nou bietjie meer"
"My weegskaal het anderdag geval, tel liewer so 15kg by om veilig te speel"
"I am actually always 58kg, but we had a meal at Spur last night ... rather make it 64 kg."

They should take attorneys on microlight flips and ask the truth ! ##

I am working on mine and I agree that a velcro look around the pylon would work best, this is then also adjustable for teh pax height. This would also make pax feel less like they are toppling out.

Another option on some trikes is using the bolt that the hand crank pulley uses. Its at head height so may be too high though.

I dont think it is a good idea to make your passenger skrik with any type of drill.
I usually tell them that a trike is a very safe aircraft and that they have nothing to fear.
The very first time I was a passenger in a trike the pilot also told me the same and once I was buccled in my seat and we were ready to take off he said:
" Jy sien daai bos daar langs die runway, dis die PONT OF NOU RETURN" .. Toe skrik ek my gat af..
Toe se hy weer: " en agter daardie bos, dit is die DEAD MAN ZONE!!!!"...Toe piepie ek so biekie in my broek.!!!
I think it was his way to explain to me that trike flying is a dangerous sport..

Im a newbie so i recently made myself a flip chart to help in the briefing.

I let my pax read it, and then explain everything (why its on there)

At the back is the indemnity i had them signed.

Any inputs welcome or add-ons.

Jaco
