Young Falcons Wings Parade - AFB Ysterplaat 13 Nov

Hi Guys,

That time of the year again. The Ysterplaat Young Falcons will be having their Wings Parade on the base on Saturday 13th November.

Basic program is 7:30 to 8:30 pilots arrive
Flips for Young Falcons and Instructors 8:30 to 12:00
Tea, Coffee & sandwiches at 10:00
Bus to Young Falcons Aviation Academy at 12:00
Wings and Certificates presentation at 12:30
Lunch at 1:00pm

i have been successful in getting 2 drums of AVGAS to top up your tanks so please get hold of me to organise the documentation.

Ask the guys who were there last year - great fun - please join us. Microlights and blik aeries welcome - gyros ???? I will twist the ATC's arm if you would like to join us.

Hopefully Windguru is wishful thinking and Wunderground is right (they predict 8 to 15kph from the S and SE for the morning ..... in the Cape one just never knows......

On a serious note though Pelican. What is the situation with indemnities for the Young Eagles? Am I correct in assuming their parents/guardians have signed these? As pilots we need to be indemnified should (horror of horrors) something bad happen. This will be my first experience so please enlighten me?

Indemnities.............

Most indemnities are not worth the paper they are written on. In my experience, it all comes down to who can afford the most expensive lawyer.

However........ all the parents/legal guardians have submitted a fairly comprehensive indemnity at the start of the course. We did a quick tally at the last session and sent out ones to those parents whose signatures we did not have or had gone astray. There will be a quick check on Saturday morning before the kids go through the security gate. You guys are mentioned in a particular way in the indemnity as you are the guests of Cape Virtual and thus, for the day, part of Cape Virtual.

We have tested the indemnity with a couple of legal eagles and, in particular, the SAAF legal department and the result is the indemnity we now use.

If you have your own indemnity, please feel free to use it. Quite a few of the parents will be there including two of the school principals that hold PoA to sign on behalf of most of the parents that will not be there.

The power of Microlighters (and AVCOM) - Thank guys! We have 21 aircraft inbound on Saturday.

I have done a Summary Safety Briefing - Ypt ATC's are just tweaking it for me - will post here as soon as it is ready. I will also send it out on e-mail to the guys I have e-mail address's of - if you do not get it in your e-mail, please PM me your e-mail address.

Well done to Bob and his team for the good work they are doing with the Young Falcons!

The weather didn't play along early in the day so only the die-hards got there in the end. Nevertheless, A great time was had by all.

Well done - am glad the weather worked out for at least some of you. I was sitting at Diemerskraal till 10:00 looking at the sky, sweeping the hanger and generally doing all sorts of things while waiting for the clouds to lift. Eventually had to give up. Hope I can make it next year.
