Hey guys. Seems that the guys up in the North want to rather meet the South halfway and not all the way. Some guys on the other side of the 'druiwe gordyn' have also indicated that there is little flying in it for them if they just zap to FASH.
Would a "lets meet halfway" then be more acceptable if we all fly to Gariep and book out the hotel or the chalets at the dam?
Lets hear what the feeling is. Big thing is though that we must get at least 50 Gyros together to make it a newsworthy event. The guys that want to fly down to Cape Town after Gariep can still do so.
And now I finally figured out who my good friend mr Barry is on the forum !! <*> Years ago in , must have been early nineties , I was doing a concert in Kimberley and we had a last minute snag just before the show with a PA or a mike or I cannot remember what ...BUT , who came to our rescue ?? A gent who had a fantastic music shop in Kimberley...one that compared to the best in Joburg. If not for him , the show would not have taken place ! Praat ons hier van dieselfde man ??

Flynote
Confirm dates to be 20 and 21 November? Routing can be decided upon but dates need scheduling...

What about Upington?

Halfway for all.... Guesthouses, lots of places to fly, 5km runway, hanger space. Augrabies to fly to , molopo to fly to , pans to fly to.

Just a suggestion.
Good instructors always speak well about all flying machines.
Bad instructors speak badly about machines they cannot fly.

WE have the AVIATORS year end at FASH on the 20 November , so please if possible a week before or after that , otherwise some guys might not be able to fly and others won't attend the year end . Flynote you are ofcourse more than welcome to join us for the year end should you want to fly down , Will even give you hangar space !!!!

Hi Saraf

I am not sure Uppington is acceptable. I really do not want to taxi 5km so that I do not leave more runway behind me than is absolutely necessary every time I take off. :-)

LOL, you are more than welcome to use the intersection , it is 2.6km one way and 2.4km the other, hopefully you will make the fence at the end of both..................................... (^^)

By the way T bird , I agree with you , runway behind you is to no use.

Haha Eggbeater. Were you the naughty boy that committed the unforgiveable at Springs?
My opinion is that it's the Pilots call as to whether he can safely execute an intersection takeoff or not. He knows (or should know) his machines performance, effect of density altitude etc. If his judgement is questioned then raise a CAHRS and let CAA decide.

I would be keen to hear the other side of the story.

Hi L,
We can always try something close to  Upington.
We stayed at Thuru Lodge on our last night on Bots/Nam trip. (own airstrip)

I can highly recommend this place.
