Camera mounting position.

If I wanted to mount a camera on my trike, where is the best place to put it?
Any bracket ideas?

hi , for videos , on your bar at your R/H if you are R/H or then on your L/H . Have nice videos in that possie, for pic's i will say hang it around your neck.

The bar seems like a convienient place, but does it not get in the way when the wing is moved fully to the side, like when parking in windy conditions?
I had thought of the profile tube, but this is a real stretch to reach.
Maybe around the neck is the best place. I do have my doubts about the laniard fasterner on the camera though.
No other ideas?

Hi Byron,

I have been looking for a good mount for a while now and what I have found is something called the Pedco UltraClamp. This will fit nicely onto the bar of the A-Frame and is very secure.

The only problem I have with it is that you cannot rotate or pan the camera while flying, but is very sturdy in flight with no vibration.

I attached a pic for you to see. You can get it from a place in Northclif called action cameras.

Hi,

I attached a piece of aluminium angle iron with clamps onto the bar (about 80mm) and use a 'window' camera mount, obtainable from any camera shop, secured with cable ties. The mount can be moved up/down/left/right and even rotated. See attached.

Has anyone got a Gorrial Pod, I've seen they can be pretty versatile to mount in odd configurations, don't know if they are stiff enough to hold up to trike speeds though.

I believe I am to wear one of those dayglo orange jobs, so I will be there early in the morning - probably from 6:30 onwards..

If I can convince my softness to fly with me, I might be there earlier..

I've included an enlarged picture of it, on the profile tube, using two cable ties, and it works well enough for me..

I have a similar set up to alpha-a-sierra's picture. Mounted just to the right of the hand grip on the bar. It is close enough to use and far enough to be out of teh way. You need to memorise where the camera selector knobs positions as its damn near imposible to see when flying. I am now used to it and have a canon 500D with a 12mm fish eye on it. Takes good video and stills. I still want to fit a remote shutter release closer so I don't have to lean for stills.

How much torsional stress can it put on the bar? The camera is a hand held device and should be fairl light, and as long as it is mounted close to the bar, (short moment, (minimal leverage)) I cannot see it placing the bar under much stress ....... or am I missing something?

If there was an accident, this is classified as an unapproved mod right? Implications?

I have a large camera, and the mountings get quite tall once you have the bar clamps and the adjustment gimball and the attachment to the camera. And considering the bar is not designed for any twisting motion. Just something to keep in mind.
