I think it would be a great idea if the South guys can come to Kitty Hawk for the AGM on 9 October and then the North guys accompany them back (show them the route) to the South for some site seeing and snoek braais.

My vote is Stellenbosch, weekend of 6 & 7 November!

Come on North (&KZN) guys, stretch your legs and embrace the adventure. Its only about 5 hours to Gariep, sleep over, next day in 5 or 6 hours you're here! If Cx and I can do it easily so can you!! You have AWESOME peninsula flights and the beautiful Cape to look forward to.

Look forward to seeing you - gonna go start catching those fish for the braai already.

Hi All,
Been discussing the North/South issue last night with some gyro pilots and we thought that maybe if we combined this issue (somehow) as a rally between exotic cars and bikes and made it a rally (and collection) for cancer, we will get more mileage and exposure. The idea is that each team consists of a gyro, a car and a bike. The gyro does a leg, and the car takes over from there and does a leg after which the bike does a leg and in this way one can "leapfrog" all the way to Cape Town, ending at Cape Town International.
The exposure will obviously be on national TV and newspapers and if we can get some sort of sponsorships even better. It will be for a good cause and definitely change the negative way many view us.
Let's have some thoughts and ideas on this please.
Regards
Eric

Eric

I fully agree and support your idea of combining this North / South trip with a fundraiser for charity and also getting some nice exposure for gyros. We might even convert some of the bikers and sportscar drivers and enthusiasts/spectators or at least create an interest for gyros, or flying for that matter, with them. It would be nice if something like this can be a yearly charity event like the bikers annual toy run. The format of the "race" / event doesn't really matter, as long as everybody enjoys it, we raise funds for charity and promote gyros along the way.

What is the final decision? It looks like the North guys are making plans to come down to the Cape but are we going up to meet them half way?? Gyro0? What's happening from the Cape side. I am keen to fly to Gariep and do a detour so we don't fly the same route there and back. Anyone else?

Great idea Newguy!

How about we fly to Swellendam, refuel, then Beaufort West to Gariep, meet them there and then fly back via Worcester?
We may need some fuel between Beaufort and Worcester (but so will they) and it won't be difficult to arrange if we have the volumes... either at Matjiesfontein or Touws-river. Once we have the numbers and the estimated fuel required we can arrange.

In summary then, I am all for it yes! !!!!

PS Congrats with your conversion to your stunning M22! Look forward to flying with you!

ZU-RJR is in for its second service at the moment. Once done I will give you a shout for that promised flight Grumpy. We have to get 'Jannie' in the air too! I haven't forgotten, lets just choose the day well.

See you soon!
