D2O

Gee man!...I really feel for you. :( I'm just so sorry that you will miss this experience. As said before...try to bum a lift and experience this event from the air. I have been watching the weather and Saturday seems good weather for flying. I also bow to your judgement of your abilities to fly there with so little flying experience. =D* =D* and glad that you didn't try to do it by throwing caution to the wind.

Shame, D20 that really sucks. I'm sure you can hitch a ride with someone. I will also be travelling there by car as I'm still a student myself... Anyone keen to let me bum a ride too? I will be a very willing PAX!

.... Of course please give D20 first Dibs!

See you all there. (!!)

In 2003 i was with my son in New Zealand, and we visited Ohakea Air Force Base which had a small museum and tea room. While there, approx. 30 microlights flew into the base, parked on the grass verge opposite the museum, and all the pilots and crews entered the tea room for refreshments. That was the first time I had laid eyes on the Bantam...! I was fascinated by this strange looking aircraft, and sighed a wish that i would love to fly in one. We stayed to watch them line up and take off, one after another, and as they formated above the base.
Shortly after my return home, one sunday, i drove my MGA to a rally at Hazyview, and what should I see there,?... a couple of Bantams. I was directed to Andrew Pappas, monday i was at his place, took a test flip and signed on the dotted line.....Today, 7 years later, i own my second Bantam, a Big Six, and i will never forget that first sighting.
maybe, just maybe, the Swartkops fly-in will evoke the same desire, and the same result in a visiting wannabe.
Hopefully too, the S.A. Air Force will emulate their N.Z. counterparts and allow these type of Microlight Fly-ins on a yearly basis.
Enjoy it guys, I will be thinking of you,
Kind regards,
Dirk

Thanks guys. I'll see if I can bum a lift off someone. I'm hangaring at Microland, but anyone anywhere with an open seat would be appreciated. I'll even split fuel costs & landing fees!

That runway is so long that you can do 6 touch & go's on it,and then a final.

Gentlemen

Please remember that the runway is extremely long ..so please don't land short otherwise you have to taxi for 10 km to the apron. If you land too deep, take a left turn at the traffic light, proceed along Old Jhb Rd and left into the main entrance. (**)

Gents and the ladies flying in tomorrow

Myself and Deon vistied the ATC at Swartkops earlier this week. Had a good look at approaches and if wind conditions are good it seems we will all be landing on 02.

As mentioned don't land on the numbers but try and put your aeries down where the grass runway intersect 02 / 20. Thereafter you can taxi off at Bravo taxiway (the first one you will find after landing on the left) and then proceed to taxi on to the apron area just north of the Control Tower. The ATC said they will have an area specially set aside for us

See you all there!
