Kitty Hawk Fun Rally GYRO'S INVITED

Postby Condor » Thu Sep 16, 2010 8:55 pm

You have been waiting for this, now is the time!!!!!!!!

SAPFA (South African Power Flying Association) will host a Fun Rally at Kitty Hawk on Saturday 2 October 2010, and all Gyro’s are invited.

No experience required as you will get a proper briefing on the day.

Sorry guys, no microlights as you have to nominate your expected speed. Minimum allowed speed is 60 knots.

Check out the events thread on AVCOM as we will post details there shortly.

Let’s show the BLIKEARIES how to do it!!!!!!!!!

So, what happened?

I trust the gyro pilots showed their fixed wing colleagues how things should be done.

Eish EB!
Eventually only two gyros competed. Although I was personally disappointed in our 10th place out of 19 starters.
Despite the challenges of open tandem cockpit, with pilot not having map and a compass that bobs around worse than the proverbial kokorot on the cork, It wasn't a total embarrassment and was also a huge learning experience and a bucket full of fun.
What would really be fun is if we organize our very own gyro's only rally. Frank Eckard is more than willing to help with arrangements, loggers, route etc. ( maybe something to discuss at this weekend's SAGPA AGM?)

I was the other gyro that competed and we came 11th . I flew to Kitty Hawk to observe what a fun rally was all about and have breakfast. This was not to be. I was asked to participate but had no navigator. This problem were solved in seconds and there I was forced into participating with a young lady called Maryka which is a ppl in training. In the end it was great fun and I would like to invite fellow gyronuts not to miss out on such a invitation. To the organizers, can the briefing be earlier so that we can get on our way earlier. I did my route between 11h25 and 12h45 on a hot, windy and cloudy day over mountain terrain (**) and the fact that we came 11th just proof the abbility of a gyro. Unfortunatly I had to leave for another function and were unable to attend the price giving. Maryka informed me afterwards. If ever such an event is organized again do not miss out and as old no 7 said- Buckets full of fun! Gerrit ek het gedoen soos jy gevra het! (^^)
