Hey Africa!

SAAF is the SAAF boet! Although a lot diffrent from the pre 1994 days we as ex-military, non-military, ALTP, Comm, PPL, SPL or MPL pilots still need to respect their authority and ( I beleive) have faith in the good work they are "trying" to do.

To all Bantam pilots flying in - myself , Hans Kolver (Ex-S.A.A Airbus Captain) and Deon Barnard (Current British Airways Captain) are planning a formation fly-past on our arrival at FASK. Deon and myself will be meeting up with the SAAF ATC on Monday to discuss approach procedures, pre-orbit and joining up location etc. etc. Those willing to join us please let me know on the Bantam forum section

Lekker vlieg!

I understand what you are trying to say about respecting them but it seems like the whole authority thing is taken way to far. I have flown into Oshkosh before with a very large group 79 Beach craft pilots and it was a breeze and Oshkosh is 100 times busier than jan Smuts, but still my point is that there are no top secret things going on and SAAF is about non existent so why such a rigmoral? In my opinion its a controlled airport that has a few oakes with authority that our tax money pays their salaries. To go to the Swartkops airshow, you drive there, park and pay and check it out...very easy why not the same to fly in? I mean a few bantams and trikes are not going to carry a gatlin gun...LOLOLOL

Unfortunataly it is still SAAf property and it is about liability if someting should happen to you or your aircraft.
Still think it's a great gesture from them to allow civie pilots to fly in.

I agree, it only took a few seconds to fill in the forms, really looking forward to the event!

I agree too...it also just shows the SAAF that us microlight and LSA pilot give as much respect to them as they have given us by allowing us to fly in. I just think that it is the right thing to do if we would like to be invited again one day.

This is going to be an awesome event and is going to be great if a little nerve racking to see so many pilots and planes fly in to one venue on one day...not quite Oshkosh, but then again this is SA and I must say i am proud of all of us giving the respect and joining in on the day... so well done peeps. Africa - there is still an active chopper squadron that flies out of zwartkops thus it is an active military airfield still - it's not just the museum that is there. If you don't like the forms, don't fill them in and stay at home. I don't undersand why some people can always have an issue.

Please remember, we are all civvie pilots flying into a Military AFB. It is our request to do so and the Military will not allow themselves to be compromised,in any way, should any civvie pilot or aircraft be hurt or damaged whilst on military property. This is done with any pilot or aircraft other than Military, irrespective of who it is.I just think that we must respect the request, as it stands.I trust that this answers your question.

Stephan i did not know that I was not entitled to an opinion. all I did was raised a question and your juvenile answer really explains why the SAAF needs such detail to allow people to fly in. I do like the forms for this very reason, it allows people to coment on things that are good and silly and really all this red tape is silly. Its an opnion ou bul and nothing else. blue skies

Hi Les,
Are you having a meeting with ATC aswell, if so ask them if it is still required te ask for startup a taxi clearance. That used to be the procedure on departure.
