Ok, played around a bit & here's my contribution.
I tried to keep it close to the original logo as I really liked it.
Let me know what you guys think. The large version is available if approved.

AWESOME job D20! not that other efforts are unnoticed! I would like to see more detail on the actual aeries, accentuate the flying style... Also pusher vs puller vs rotor vs floppy toppy

Think out of the box, even forget the name below the logo, spell "fly" with aircraft, or "freedom" you guys rock and I am sure someone can come up with an awesome idea!

"FREEDOM"
"AVIATION"

A word spelt with aircraft parts would ROCK!

"PART 62" the missing bolt

I am not current with the regs but you need to remember that we are a GLOBAL site, not just ZA

Catch the eye, immediately recognisable... FUN FUN and MORE FUN!

Why not use images of our own aeries... (these are just ones I had on my laptop - too few trike pics) Could be quiet lekka. If there is interest all I need is pic of your aerie (pref in flight)... puff

Something like this...

As they say in Mythbusters, "The devil's in the details"
If the logo is too detailed & "busy", the embroidery won't come out well.
I like muhammedc's last one with the prop. It looks good, and would embroid well.

Lemme see what else I can conjur up (**)

Yip. The above "logo" would be more for the top bar of the web page rather than the badge..

I rekon if we africanise this one it has potential as a badge..

Not sure you will easily find a global term for the level of flying addressed. Would also want to consider a change to a .com or maybe even a .aero if you believe the SA flavour is a detractor. I dont beleive the za flavour is a problem. IMHO I think many post in comfort knowing that you are chatting to a 'local'.
DarkHelmet wrote:"PART 62" the missing bolt
Part 62 is the part of the regulations that addresses the crew licensing requirements for all the aviation forms on this site - as in all the non ICAO licence types. All here hold (or are interested in) a Part 62 licence - hence the 62'ers. Not a very serious suggestion though. :P

Well, it goes towards what you want to achieve on the site in the end.

If you only want existing microlight & LSA pilots to be on the forums, then use terms we all are accustomed to in the name or logo, but if you want to grow the forums by attracting joe public to develop an interest in microlights & LSA by finding & browsing the forums as well, then terms like "part 62" will make no sense to them IMHO, and they'll think they're in some kind of legal advice site.
The existing name & logo is exactly how I found this site when I started out (not knowing the first thing about microlights), and I only got to know what "part 62" was 2 months into my training! (**)
Matching the name, logo & branding is crutial if you want to attract the right people, whether it be a business or a website.

R4Vker! Smart! (^^)

I like yours with the many aircraft representing all that are Microlighters, then no one feels left out - don't worry about the many aircraft - had a chat to the guy thats doing our Bantam Pilots Wings and they can do it!

Email me the badge as a PDF to christoqs@interexcel.co.za and let me see what sample he can come up with
