Who is going solo next?

Griffin has suggested we start this forum so without stealing his thunder and giving due acknowledgements to him let's start:-

I have only 4.3 hours in my log book. Looking at starting circuits within the next couple of hours. At this stage I don't even want to guess when I will be solo as this is dependent on the weather and my availability at the airfield.

By the way, as additional information, I am training with Cato Flying School at Catoridge Airfield on an Aquilla 503.

My solo is solely dependent on the CAA providing me with the paperwork (scary, ain't it?). So don't think it will be in the next week or so. Flew 15 minutes last night - did three circuits just to keep my hand/eye in. Any flying's good flying :D :D :D .

Demon the way I understand it the CAA is still waiting for minutes of the medical board's meeting which sounds like it took place in Pretoria (IAM?). My DAME is also *& still on leave until next week, so don't hold out much hope. If I get the paperwork sooner, its a bonus. I think the CAA is already tired of my constantly bugging them... I was hoping for this weekend.... so I can celebrate with my friends

The Australian system is somewhat different. Minimum of 15 hours dual then 5 hours solo. The system works well as the student has far more hands on instruction. Only 5 hours experience after attaining your certification can you do a passenger carrying endorsement.
Medical only required for passenger carrying endorsement and not for pilot certificate!.
So unlike SA you do not get your licence, land and pick up a pax.
The Cross country is also a seperate endorsement.
I do remember a pilot who qualified back home dropping his instructor, picked up a passenger, flew away and on returning was proud to show us the mielie head in the grass cutter on his windlass trike !

I refuse comment on this. Do not draw any conclusions from the number of hours my instructor has been sharing a trike with me . We are not planning to get married any time soon. We are just good friends.

I don't really count, but have 4.8 hrs trike time and not yet gone solo, but mine simple a convex to learn when to push and when to pull and get ride of rudder feet.

(Early morning's got to me in a hurry. 6 weeks and 9 vists (up before sun) to get the 4.8 hrs when I gave it up. I will never fly when I have lic at that time so why train then?) Now will be restarting as spl (weight shift) as soon as pressure off at work. (Hopefully before Aug)

I have 6.1hrs in my logbook, but that time was accumulated over about 6 months and I haven't flown (a trike) for about a year so it's pretty much start again time for me.

I reckon I could do the straight and level stuff and medium turns - was on the stall lesson last and I most certainly need LOTS of brushing up on that. Actually, I reckon I could handle steep powered turns too, but wouldn't be too comfy without some decent refresher.

All in all, I need to get back in the air!!!!!!!!!!

Now, where did I put that lotto ticket....?

Strangely the push instead of pull was not the problem for me, its the round-out, the last couple of feet that gets me.
I just can't wait to get rid of the instructor.

Now have 6 hours 35 minutes logged on Aerotrike Safari ZU-CFA. Only got 15 minutes in last Saturday due to fog coming in over Saldanha airfield - made for interesting flying and I now understand how you can become disorientated so quickly in cloud/fog/mist. Doing my first dual cross country this Saturday - flying out to a local farmer for breakfast - looking forward to breaking free from the monotony of circuits which seem to be getting better because my instructor (he who shall be obeyed) does not moan so much anymore about how I am wearing out his shocks and tyres. :D

Yaay, I'm going to Dragon Peaks for the weekend which means I should be getting a couple more hours in WYW. Highly unlikely to go solo as am still waaaaaay too rusty, but might just do a xcountry to Ladysmith.

The first time I ever took control of a trike was taking off from the Ultra City on the way back from a xcountry to Ladysmith. (and Dirty Harry had to change his jocks after that )

Be nice to climb into something without a windscreen again.
