Morph, if you and Ranger are interested I have this thing sorted. ....... Anyway I will be prepared to share my design with you and Ranger for your production purposes.

Ranger can cut the plates and source the motors, and belts and bearings
Skid, give us a quote on making up the sprockets, the crank extender and mounts for the starter. OR Ranger can make the plates and supply Skid. In this case Skid give us a quote for the whole solution.

Had a chat with Ranger yesterday. I will get all the costings together as it has been a while since I have put one of these together. From there I will give you guys an exact price. Please be patient with me as it will take a few days to call around for all the material and machining costings and prices etc.

With discussions with Ranger and myself we have just got all the costing done.
Bottom line is that it's going to cost you guys R4995.00. Cannot go cheaper than that.

I've got an electric starter, belt, adaptor and bigger battery box which fits on the pull start section of a 503. Bought it from a friend who needed some cash. I have not installed or tried the thing as I'm still happy to pull start. Offer me R3500 and you can have it.

Unfortunately I am still searching for one. This one we referred to above has a few modifications that need to be made to the pull start, and I am still trying to get one.

So we are in the same boat.

The starter you guys are talking about is very like the M4 starter I have on my trike mounted 503....same idea with the sprag cluch and toothed belt....works well,

The makers recommend a few pumps of grease every 50hrs into the clutch via the nipple.

I am still looking for a starter for my 503, can any help, or put me onto someone who can help? My pull starter is now getting to the point of no return and instead of replacing the pull starter I really want to put on an electric starter. So any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Guys, looking for help in getting drawings and advice for an electric starter for my 503 twin carb in the Uk. Ive injured my back in a work accident(twice) and now have trouble pull starting. If i cant find a solution i may have to sell my plane.

That is a real shame. there are elecric starter motors available in the states off the shelf for Rotax 503 ans 582

Hi Skid, yes its a shame. The GPL starter has so many bad reports i wouldnt buy one. The rotax official starter cant be fitted to trikes unless you dislike the passenger so much a spinectomy is required every landing. The M4 starter is no more and like hens teeth to find in the uk. My only hope is to wait on someone having an accident with a M4 starter fitted, the only approved starter by the way. The e box is £1300 in the uk, half what my aircraft costs!

Ok I did not know about that. Pity. For me to set up and make my starter motor which works brilliantly I would want to make at least 5 to 10 units to make it worth my while. The set up costs are too high just to make one. Plus I would have to see what current components prices are are since the last time I quoted earlier on in this posting.

what would it take to bring down the unit price to +/- R3000? Do you think that's possible at all by making more units or changing components/design? R3k represents about 10% of the total value of an average trike with a 503/B-box and that's pretty much the pain threshold. (I'm an engineer, but sometimes just have to take the beancounters' approach to projects first.)
