Rotax 582 vs 912

Postby Smiley » Fri Jan 20, 2006 9:11 am

Hello guys. What are the Pro’s and Con’s of a Rotax 582 vs. 912 on a trike?? :? :? :?

Doesn’t the increase in 912 power over 582 power balance out because of the increase in weight of a 912?

Most pilots seems to prefer a 912 if money wasn't an object, but it is!! Maybe that's the Con's??

Another advantage I see is the TBO of the 912 is 1500 hours vs 300 for a 582.

Also, 4-strokes tend to be a bit more reliable

hey guys...I can only speak from a fixed wing perspective....A Bushie with a normal 912 (80hp) performs less than a Bushie with a 582...reason, weight.

However, if you talking 912S (100hp).....then it is a completeley different matter....those extra 20 ponies make a huge difference..

also only my 2 cents worth.

the 912 makes for a more stable Bushbaby all round - but wont out climb the 582, unless you put in the 912s, but then you end up with more worries in the temp dept

912 seems an even match for best climb and best glide speeds at around 65mph with about 500fpm full tanks (72l) and pax, cruising at 80mph 4800rpm with no worries on overheating most times. Darn engine mounts are crappy though

No debate, the 912 has proven to be a top piece of kit, my 582 cost the same as a 912 cos you keep adding cranks...works out the same in the long run. 350hrs tbwh (time before wallet hurt) versus 912 goes on forever.
