Yesterday FASH's weather station measured 42 degrees at one stage, so a bit of relief today - early 30s I would imagine. A short flip around Morningstar, with some clouds : http://www.zu-dve.com for the log.

Similar thing happened to me once while flying my solo hours with Johann Froneman's Rotax 503 equipped Aerotrike Safari at Saldanha. As I took off at about 20m AGL I could feel that the engine lost power so I immediately landed again and taxied back to the hangar. Johann then went and flew around for about 15 minutes and experienced no problems whatsoever. I felt like a total poephol and thought I had imagined it all until the next bloke in line took it up and had to land in a field on the way to Langebaan half an hour later when he had an engine out. Turned out to be a hole through the rear piston. Maybe worth opening the engine up just to check whta might be developing?

Cloud warrior, I don't think it is this. Otherwise it would have showed during the 1 hour flip afterwards. With heat, the gaps tend to open up and get more pronounced, and you will feel a definite power loss. Gert had this happen to him a year or so ago. He would have recognized it. So I doubt it happened here.

The next guess I had was that there was maybe a hint of water in the fuel, but to happen 2 times 4 minutes apart, kind of dented that idea. Anybody with more experience on this??

My bet is still on dirt in the carbs that just block the jets on full power. Its just a pity that gert emptied his carb bowls before we got there. I would like to check his fuel line after the filter to see if it is in a good condition. The filter is only a few hours old.

Maybe gert just got a fright and lifted his foot of the throttle... who knows... maybe he had a revelation about who punctured his jeep's tyre... and the second time round, he just got scared thinking about the first time...

Gert when you say lost power, was it a reduction in rpm as if suffering fuel starvation, or a sudden off. The first would be as a result of a fuel related issue, the second an electrical one.
