After occasionally thinking about it for years I have now decided to become licensed for microlights. As I would like to complete the flying part in a shorter period than 2 months, I will start that next year when I have more time. Now the questions:
1. Would it make sense to write the ground exams and radio this year?
2. How long do the ground exams remain valid, if I have not done the flying test yet?
3. Apart from Swales exams (which I have got) what other training or books will assist?
Thanks

Just a question:
Why would you want to cram the flying bit into 2 months??

Hi BarnOwl, I would suggest you sign up at a Training School, and start with the practical (flying) instruction. You should then receive all the literature you are going to need for the exams. The flying can be done at your pace and timing thereafter.
I, however found that the flying itself made the understanding and remembering of the exam literature much easier..
Good Luck

I understand that doing the flying an theory together is the ideal, but doing the flying this year will be too much of a fragmented process. As next year is still 12 months away I will enjoy picking up on the cerebral part in the meantime.

If you do not take leave and do a dedicated training course it is going to take you some months any way due to physical and weather restraints. Believe me tried to push my training by even flying in the mornings before work and still took 8 months
My humble opinion is do them together the theory will make a lot more sense

I did my license in 3 years. Being based in cape town and doing license in bloem (I started there before moving to cape town), is not ideal. It might sound strange, but you learn how to fly on the ground. You will benifit more from being away from flying, than cramming it in. My 2 cents.Barn owl wrote:I understand that doing the flying an theory together is the ideal, but doing the flying this year will be too much of a fragmented process. As next year is still 12 months away I will enjoy picking up on the cerebral part in the meantime.
