Television full HD or HD Ready - what's the diffs?

The easy explanation, HD Ready can recieve an HD signal but does not actually display HD. Full HD recieves and displays HD. Correct me if I`m wrong!

HDTVs contain an HD tuner allowing you to receive high definition, for example from your house antenna's over the air signal reception.

HD_READY TVs contain everything necessary to display high definition except that HD tuner. To display high definition, you need a separate high definition tuner box or cable (or other service) which provides a high definition digital cable box which does the tuning for high definition for you.

OK so let me see If I understand it

Full HD TV will be able to decode an HD TV signal itself and display it. Are their any (non DSTV) HD broadcasters out there or what is the plan (e-TV perhaps sometime)

HD Ready will require the tuner/decoder which is something like the HD PVR system from DSTV. The HD PVR decodes the signal and you use a digital cable link from the PVR to the TV. Additionally you will be able to display Blue Ray movies if you have the player or HD via your PC/USB type connection

I have both and there is little (I can't see any) difference on the DSTV HD signal.... so in SA where you need HD "box"/tuner in anycase I don't see the point, but I often miss the point

Most HD Ready displays can only display 720p (which is the lowest resolution in the HD specification). Full HD can display 1080p (1920x1080 pixels). 720p is great. 1080p is (censored) awesome .

First you have to understand what is r-e-s-o-l-u-t-i-o-n.

Jokes aside. I just went through this exercise.

The main difference between HD and HD ready is resolution. HD ready displays in a 1366 x 768 resolution i.e. 1 Mega Pixel. Full HD tv's display in 1920 x 1080 resolution i.e. 2.1 mega pixels.

If you are only gonna watch tv from broadcastings, HD ready is fine cause DSTV's HD signals will be in the 1366 x 768 resolution band. If you are into movies and your next buy is gonna be a Blu Ray player, full HD video cam or PS3 - full hd tv is the answer. The reason why we do not currently see a difference is because the HD signal we receive is not full HD - but as soon as you have blu ray - different story.

I have bought a full hd video cam, and had a HD ready tv - which I have donated to some underprivelage soccer fans - replaced with full HD - definate difference. Full HD is awesome, if you have a suitable input.

P.S. There is no difference between the tuners - for both you still need a HD decoder to receive a HD signal. Apparantly - but that was said about PC's and all technology stuff - DSTV is still a while away from broadcasting in full HD. HD uses a moer of an amount of bandwidth - therefore also not dualview HD currently - cause of lack of bandwidth.

Was just about to say - perhaps not enough motivation given the quality of the few HD DSTV channels - but if you are going to get yourself a Blu Ray player - Full HD is the only way to go.

Ontop of that you have another decision now that you have decided Full HD. Do you buy:
LCD
Plasma
LED

Once again price will ascend with the above list.
