Newbie looking for a push in the right direction.

Hello all

I mentioned I am a newbie, but in reality, I am so green I still need to be born. I have no previous flying experience in a Microlight. The thing that got my attention, is that one can for relatively little cash input, experience the liberating feeling of freedom that can only be provided by flying.

Where do I start? First I should get some poor sucker to take me for a glide in a microlight. Can anyone advise of someone in the PTA/Centurion region that could possibly help with this? I have read that one may not fly commercially in a Mlight, but surely I could at the very least pay for juice and wear and tear Any other ideas?

I guess step 2 would be to get my hands on a MPL. Could someone hazard a guess at what this will cost me? I do not own a trike, so I suppose a training school would let me use theirs? Any training schools close to PTA/Centurion?

I have many more questions, especially concerning the craft itself, but let's get this over and done with first

Go to a training school and get them to take you for an introductory flight. Training schools can and do charge for these flights but it is worth it.

Then go talk to a bank manager about R15000. This is approximately what it will cost, including hiring the school's plane, instructor fees, classes, exams fuel, etc.

Get yourself booked as early as possible for a flight medical, just to make sure you are healthy and fit enough to fly a plane, Nothing too serious unless you have serious health problems. Otherwise you might end up paying a lot of money for nothing. The school will tell you where to go.

Then enjoy it.

The nearest trike school is Aero 57 in Centurion.

I am sure that it will only need a little push to get you convinced that microlights are an awesome way to fly as well as being "affordable".

I will contact the suggested fly school for my inaugral flight. Will also look at the suggested otto.co.za site to familiarise myself with the legal aspects.
