Hi,
A while back the legal eagles decided to have all rotor craft ( heli's and gyro's) registration changed to start with the letter R.
Now the question begs, why are there two RAF2000 I know of, that is still on old registrations, or is the RAF excluded??
Not slamming anybody, just would like to know.
Regards,

Only new registrations get the R, existing rotorcraft keep their old registration

Re: Gyro Registrations
I know of a lot of Gyro's who changed registration. And also know of couple fixed wings who had to change theirs to do away with the R.mak wrote:Wargames

Hi Wargames, below is a copy of the AIC and link to previous thread about rotorcraft registration changes. Basically CAA wanted to introduce reg-prefix conformity amongst rotorcraft and waived the usual fee payment if owners changed thier regs. It wasn't mandatory to change at the time hence some gyros and helis with non H or R prefixed registrations.

REGISTRATION OF AIRCRAFT
REGISTRATION LETTER ALLOCATIONS FOR ROTORCRAFT
The South African Civil Aviation Authority is presently involved in a process to effect improvements to facilitate aviation
functioning and development in addition to its prime mandate of ensuring an acceptable level of aviation safety in the
Republic, as set Out in Section 3 of the South African Civil Aviation Act, 1998 No. 40 of 1998).
It has been brought to our attention that there have been certain difficulties faced by the rotorcraft fraternity in relation
to the assignment of registration letters. The purpose of this AIC is to confirm a recent policy decision reached
pertaining to such rotorcraft registration letter allocations.
1. The registration letters to be forall rotorcraft as from date ofthis AiC with with either H or
R following the national ZS or ZU identity.
2. Rotorcraft owners who have previously been allocated registration letters beginning with letters other than H
or R will be offered the opportunity to have such registration letters rescinded and replaced without any
to the SACAA, until 31 December 2008, letter allocations with either H or
R following the national ZS or ZU identity.
3. It is recommended that rotorcraft owners make use of the above dispensation in order to ensure.
standardization of registration mark identities for all rotorcraft in order to facilitate an easy identification of
rotorcraft by
4. Applicants for the registration of rotorcraft wHi not be charged the special registration fee when issued the
registration letters Hand R in sequence. However, helicopter registration applications which are requested
to be out of sequence, will be liable for the current R2000 special registration fee.
5, AIl owners wing aircraft that have been assigned registration letter allocations beginning with H or
R will be offered the opportunity to have such registration letters rescinded and replaced by any other
acceptable and available registration letter allocation, without any payment to the SACAA, until the
31st December 2008.
Since there have been numerous H and R registration letter issued to fIxed wing aircraft we
caution that no assumption is to be made that an aircraft with the call-sign beginning with H or R is
positively a rotorcraft.

Regards,
Wargames, I take the strongest exception to the inference that RAF2000 drivers owners are serially non-compliant or that, in common with other law abiding drivers, they are mavericks who do not regard themselves as subject to the regulations which bind us all. Let me tell you .......
Just kidding Dirk, hope to see you at the hangar soon
.
One thing that does strike me though, is how much time you spend on the gyro forum. Do I sense in you a frustrated microlighter who is dying to delve into the Nirvana of rotary flight? Or perhaps it is the fact that you have to stand frustrated at the hangar time after time, hands on hips whilst I wheel my gyro out to enjoy the challenge which a gentle 15 knot breeze presents?
Talk soon!

Hi Len.
I spent January walkabout in Oz with my boets. ZU-EXP is in Upington having a service, aux fuel tanks fitted and radio issues hopefully resolved. I'm flying up there monday week to do some more training and then fly her back later in the week to her Romeo (Delta Romeo). Your new baby arriveth soon I see! I can't wait to see her. Will you permit EXP to be seen in her exalted company?
See you soon.
