I just had a chat with Dan from Transfire and he is still looking around for a smaller container. Interestingly, he can refill you 1kg Powder unit with Halon which is starting to sound like a plan. You also don't have to fill the unit completely (they usually fill it with 1kg of gas) - 0.7kg of Halon gas = about 10 second discharge (My disclaimer - don't take my word for it - chat to the pros). This is apparently the same amount of gas in the general aviation extinguishers sold at the Stealers (stole that from the Landie guys!).

So assuming a convential powder unit's empty weight = 1kg + 0.7 kg of gas = 1.7 kg unit - not too bad. I still like the 500g gram unit but am not willing to pay 5 times the price. I will just have to cut down on those green bottles!
