So I own one of the 3 wings still currently without approval.
I've personally spoken to Jenya and he confirmed that my topless wing on an 8 hour old Aquilla 582 is 100% identical to the other 6 with "some kind of approval", yet CAA insists that I have to go through the process of registering a modification and a proving flight schedule?
What does this entail? Would it mean that I will have to fly for about 40 hours without carrying a passenger?
Can any of the 6 guys please shed some light on what kind of approval they do have.
RAASA indicated that it was not a full ATF at the moment. Is this true?
All I want to do is fly. I got my license last week and now have to continue to hire-and-fly until all this is resolved.
Main reason is that my personal and work insurance, cover me only in the case of flying a properly authorised aircraft.
I've been in contact with Philip Ferreira regarding this and hope that he will be able to assist me.
Any advice will be highly appreciated.

Re: Topless Jenya Wing ATF
Hi guys, thanks for the answers. Looks like light at the end of the tunnel - hope it's not a train!!
Conrad, I've got your cel nr and will give you a call.
Just leaving for Tanzania now but back on Tuesday morning.
Leprachaun, thanks for the info.
I know Dr Terreblance is hangering at Microland and Conrad at Petit. Where's your plane?
I will try and keep you and any other guys interested in the topless wing updated on the progress in this link.

Hey JCH
Congratulations on getting your licence and good luck sorting the wing out!
I know this is off topic, but I though I would add my 2c because you never can be too safe…
I would recommend that out of respect to your passengers and yourself you should do the next 25 or so hour solo, taking passengers, especially people that have not often flown before in a trike can be very distracting and as a new pilot you need your FULL concentration…
If you have to do the 40 hour proving flight, look at it as extra training because as most pilots will tell you, the real learning only starts once you have your licence.
Cheers and fly safe!

Re: Topless Jenya Wing ATF
Hi Bumpy,
I appreciate your input.
I was in any case planning on first getting to know my plane before taking friends.
You are right in saying that now the real training starts as initial training normally takes place with little or no turbulance and therefore I need to be exposed to those before I invite friends to join. My flight test was done in 10knot gusting 15knots!!
My instructor has also offered to fly with me in my plane - outside of his normal working hours - to make sure that I'm comfortable with the whole flight envelope of this wing. Particularly stall recoveries, with and without power. He knows the topless wing well and was of the first to test fly the wing for Jenya.
Thanks and hope to meet up with you on a fly-away at some stage.

Re: Topless Jenya Wing ATF
Well at last - after 4 weeks - I've had a response from the CAA today to make an appointment to come and inspect the wing.
They will also again visit Jenya at Aerosa to find proof that this wing is identical to the other 6 wings already approved.
At least it is a move in the right direction.
Hopefully they will after that be able to issue me with the temp ATF and allow me to do the 25 hours proving flights.
Light at the end of the tunnel???
Lets wait and see...

Re: Topless Jenya Wing ATF Approved!!!!!!!!
Another Jenya Topless Wing received an Authority to Fly today.
Thanks to Klaus Schwerdtfeger and Jabulile Sibeko of the CAA I received a Proving Flight Authority to Fly this afternoon.
Thanks also for Jenya in assisting with getting all the manufacturing paperwork ready for the inspection by the CAA last Friday.
My application took about 2 months from initial modification application until the issuing of the paperwork today.
Possibly the biggest help came from Conrad as he pointed me in the right direction by supplying me with all the documentation they prepared for the CAA. I really appreciate your help Connie. You proved to me that I was right in moving from PPL side to microlight because of the enthusiastic bunch of aviators that fly because they really love it.
Tomorrow - weather permitting - I will be flying ZU-FDA.
