As you can see from the pic two completely different conditions at ground level and just above tree line. The wind shear can be quite radical and one of the debates about Junkie's fatal crash in Dec 2006 was the conditions were exactly like this, except a stronger westerly component across the trees. This is the main motivator for us to install the higher windsock.
