That must be the first 3 axis aircraft where the prop sits below the tailboom (well the first that I have seen) and the tail is inverted - looks interesting though. On Rudi's photo, the prop also looks very close to the ground - isn't it a problem?

Nope, there are plenty of these flying. Only limiting factor is the size of the prop that you can swing because of the proximity of the boom.

Lekker little aeries, just a tad too small for me.

They do look fun - reminds me of a Titan Tornado - the type of aircraft you "strap on". (!!)

Thanks Andy
the planes i saw at tempe were not the same as that Challenger that is at Light Flight. I must say very similar in design but very very tidy, with if i remember correctly a 912 on top.

The original Challenger that we had at Light Flight was the Challenger 2(corrected by Vernon). The agent in those days was Dave Berry I think who lost his life in one of his planes. He was physically handicapped and spun in on one of his planes on a test flight.
The aerie at Light Flight if I remember correctly(not daves') was the second fixed wing at Light Flight that was used for training after your plane.(tribute to your plane) Your plane then left to Enkwhaleni(sic) near Empangeni with a citrus farmer
The Challenger then went to Richards Bay and was sponsored by Shell and local business for crime spotting. I stand to be corrected but I think Vernon from Port Edward(now) was involved.

These memories stand to be corrected. Grumpy seems to think I have lost the plot vhpy

Sorry this is all from memory and I stand to be corrected.

At 95 years of age I can be forgiven (^^) (^^)

Cheers

Hey guys, glad I saw this thread.
I've just recently finished my NPL on the Hawk Arrow, but my father owns a Streak Shadow which I'll eventually get a conversion onto.
Good to see that there are a few flying around the country.
Safe flying all, chat soon.

My timing was perfect last week as I happened to be at Rhino when the one of the local magazine guys arrived – took some air to air photo’s so good chance that small article will be published in March print 8) .. Nice exposure for the Shadow vhpy,

Yes Andy.
Dave was killed in one of his planes. When we baught the Challeger 11 ( Not 1) ZU-AYF Way back about 1996 (stand to be corrected) Four of us flew up to TVL to collect it. Terry Pattinson and Charl Van Rooyen flew it back to Empangeni, While Chris Howls and Myself flew back in his Cheroki 6. One of the stops was at Dundee. When they came in to land They stalled about 10 ft off the ground and damaged the right landing gear. We made arrangments for hangarage and came back a few days later to repair and continue. We operated from my hangar in Empangeni, (which Donovan Hobbs now owns) until a hangar was built at Richards Bay. When the crime spotting came to an end, Dave Truimp baught AYF. From There I think it went to Pottie which brought it to your area.
We had a lot of fun flying her.
My little bit of history on ZU-AYF.
Fly safe,
Vernon.
