Tailwheel Rating info

Postby bomskok » Thu Jan 07, 2010 12:34 pm

Yes, I'm going over to the Dark Side

I live in Centurion so can anyone please give me some info as to where I can get this done? Ideally Grand Central, Kitty Hawk, Rhino but will also go to Wonderboom or Lanseria if no aircraft available. Heard there's a Bushbaby at Lasertronics/Ingwe but not sure if owner will allow?

Sadly cost is something I have to keep in mind so not sure what to use for the rating, Citabria, Piper Cub, Cubby, Bushbaby? Heard a lot about the latter 2 so would like to maybe give it a go but also the Piper Cub would be very nice to do it on.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks Tracer,

I'm going to Ingwe with one of the resident trike pilots on Sat as I live close by and am hoping to maybe find some hangar space for a VP1. (Not bought it yet as I still need to find space for it close to home.)

So the BB there must be tri-gear then...

Cheers

Try Ceryl Manser at Rhino. Don't have his number on me now. Rudix has it though I am sure...

KFA Komati is a bit of a trek for me! Would love to do it on BB though. Citabria is a bit out of my league pricewise at the mo'.

George: does Ceryl have a tailwheel/BB at Rhino to do it on? As mentioned on avcom I like Rhino a lot so that's be great. I have spoken to Rudi recently re hangarage at Rhino so will give him a cal lto ask for Ceryl's number.

Tracer: I know Wimpie J, lives in same complex as us.

Cheers

Check with Parys and Secunda. May be worth it to go there for a weekend and do the thing 1time. When I did mine they were doing tailwheel on Cubby. Cheapest option by far. Nice little trainer.

John Schraader is great instructor (Ex SAAF). If you can get aerie I am sure he be rated on it.

Else try Andy Kasperson at Petit or Larry Esher at Baps. They all had access to tailies when I was looking, but usually they need owner permission and then there's that insurance thing....

Other option may be Lambada at Brits. Do MGPL sommer at same time (^^) (^^) (^^) (^^)
