Vertical Tango,
I agree that developing an instrument like that migt not be a viable proposition for retail. What i am very interested in is to try and determine wether pilots have the right tools to his/her aid to have peace of mind when flying in conditions that is doubtfull.Remember that you landed on a golf course in the morning, want to leave late afternoon,it is now very hot, fatness is showing bulges you havent noticed before, suddenly the runway seems shorter,You havent got the benefit of knowing exactly what the temperature is and now you hope for the best.Suddenly the wind direction and speed is critical. The only people who can determine these specs are the pilots themselves.Let us find out what each and every pilot think is important to him/her as far as safety is concerned.I would even go as far as saying that even one instrument per base would be sufficient. Some airfields have a notice board where this information could be displayed. The information can be updated on the hour.Designing the instrument is not important for now,but i think to know what the shortfalls are we are already progressing.Remember this is a wishlist.

Hi All,

Maybe this will be of some help during preflight if you have access to the internet .

Hi Gunther,
Quickly had a look at your posting.Very interesting.I have seen with drag racing that the driven wheels increase in diameter substantially during the quarter mile. The object is to get the wheels spinning before the cristmas tree gives the go.They actually pour flammable liqoud on the tyres that ignites, and the burning produces a chemical reaction for more grip. These vehicles have no gearbox(direct drive)and the wheels increasing in diameter also acts as a gearbox changing the gear ratio.
The Density Calculator definitions and explanations are great.I believe that Jetranger said he has an i-phone that can download software to calculate DA and more.Mabe Len can give us a brief description.
Thanks Gunther

Low Level

I made mention of two occasions and had to go check again. My apologies, Jet Ranger referred to a Bell 47  in an earlier post.

Herewith the brief description then:
The free Pilot Wizz application for an iPhone downloads real-time Metars or TAFs from your chosen weather station, or the one nearest you. It decodes the raw information and gives you the wind, strength and direction; visibility and ceiling; temperature; air pressure; pressure altitude; AUTOMATIC DENSITY ALTITUDE and any weather warnings. It also has a density altitude calculator so you can work out different scenarios ahead of time. I don't know how to take snapshots of the screen to show you but it is really neat. Pilot Wizz does an amazing bunch of other nice stuff and more can be read up about it at http://web.me.com/sean.harding/Pilot_Wizz/Home.html ; Sorry, only available on an iPhone at the moment. In my opinion a good enough reason to get one. Awesome device and oh, you can use it to make phone calls also... vhpy

Gunter referred to the calculation at the wahiduddin site. Good one Gunter. I think its preceded by an EXCELLENT article and well worth a read: http://wahiduddin.net/calc/density_altitude.htm

Finally, Johannes, this is a Bell 47. Harley of the sky. I haven't run out of ideas in a gyro (yet) vhpy

I found a way to 'snapshot' the screen on my iPhone to show the Pilot Wizz application weather and DA calc.
