Electronic Wizz?
I am looking for someone to make me an electronic gadget which should basically be
-----> sense dog bark ----> set off alarm ----> dog quiet ----- > alarm stop
(Yes, you guessed right, I have given up on asking the neighbours to keep their dogs quiet, now I will resolve to the teachings of Pavlov, adapted for homo sapiens. I.e. "Oh my gosh, there goes that damn alarm again, I wonder what.... oh the dogs are barking, quiet Fido! My oh my, the alarm stopped" Repeat the above 1000 times and the result should be "My oh my, since Fido has stopped barking at everything, that damn alarm is quiet".)
I have no electronic know-how. I found a website
http://www.electronics123.co.za
which seems to have the bits and bobs.
Anyone want to volunteer? (Maybe someone has a kid now on holiday and in desperate need of some pocket money)
Will renumerate hand$omely

Re: Electronic Wizz?
Something like this should do the trick, I guess:
http://www.fort777.co.za/index.php?main ... ts_id=8064 (Sound Activated Switch kit - R59.95)
The sensitivity is adjustable to match the required volume threshold and you can switch anything with the relay. I'd say, it's a good idea to leave the house alarm alone and rather pick a nice siren from here for a few bucks:
http://www.fort777.co.za/index.php?main ... 70_432_437
Add a little soldering, power supply and you should be set.
Cheers,
V.

Depends whether you want to stop the dog from barking or irritate the neighbors!!
This will quit the dog down:

Petsafe Outdoor Bark Control
Stop your dog from barking with this ultrasonic outdoor bark control unit. Perfect for using to:
• Stop your barking dog
• Stop your neighbors’ barking dog
• Train puppies not to bark
• Deter barking dogs on camping trips
It looks like any ordinary birdhouse that can hang in a tree, on a fence post or anywhere outside.
When the Outdoor Bark Control is within range of a barking dog, an internal microphone picks up the sound and the unit is automatically activated. The unit emits an ultrasonic sound that can be heard by dogs but is silent to humans.
Startled by the high-pitched sound that is safe and effective, the dog should stop barking, as it will associate its bark with this unpleasant noise.
When the dog stops barking the ultrasonic sound also stops. The PetSafe Outdoor Bark Control has 4 settings, including 3 sensitivity levels to choose from that indicate what barking level activates the unit and a test mode. It is effective up to 15 metres.
Whenever your dog – or your neighbor’s dog – barks, he will hear the safe, high-pitched sound that will cue him to stop his annoying habit.
Durable and weatherproof,
Two-color LED for good/low-battery indication.
Uses a 9V battery.
To optimize the effectiveneness of the unit:
The unit has a range of 5, 10 or 15 meters emission and needs to be positioned so that the microphone and speaker are directed at the area where the dogs bark.
If it is raised above the level of the dogs' heads, it must be tilted forward so that the microphone and speaker are directed actually at the dogs.
If it is at the same level as the dogs it must face the area where the dogs are and it is usually best to put it in the corner of the area so that it faces out from the corner for maximum coverage.
The microphone sensor detects any loud noise within approximately 15 m and emits an ultrasonic noise (not audible to humans but uncomfortable to dogs' sensitive ears).
After about a week your dogs should associate the irritation of their ears with their barking and reduce their barking.
Success rating: Depends entirely on the dog's hearing! Some dogs are not affected by the ultrasonic noise (they might be hard of hearing/going deaf, extremely well trained - eg police dogs - or have long furry ears that cover up the ear cavity so that their hearing is desensitized) and will not react to the unit. Some dogs absolutely hate it.

Re: Electronic Wizz?
Ah, and herein lie$ the problem - any volunteer$? A good unit will set of the siren (agreed, a seperate one from alarm) at a set decibel, an exellent unit will trigger when it hears THAT dog (see attachment [delete the .doc part]- play that in an endless loop and you will admire my sanity).Add a little soldering, power supply and you should be set.
Uhm, at this stage, both.Depends whether you want to stop the dog from barking or irritate the neighbors!!
Been there, done that, not working. Also phoning CT City Police, as useless.Petsafe Outdoor Bark Control
Out of range and do not want to do something that gives them something to complain about to police. At least noise = noise. If the police contact me about that I will demonstrate my gadget and explain that no noise = no noise.Use a water pistol.
Paint ball gun works wonders
As an aside, I am no dog-hater, I have two Jack Russells (notorious barkers) who know that barking is not allowed.

Re: Electronic Wizz?
You can always put a piece of hose pipe in the dog's
exhaust port,so that it can not build up back pressure!

Gert,
Speak to Deon (Peter Lambert's son) next time you're at the airfield.
He does this sort of thing and could do with some money

Re: Electronic Wizz?
Buy your better -half a potplant with nice little round pepples in and place at the wall.
Buy yourself a serious 'kattie' and after the first 'yelp' encounter, and when they next hear you approaching the wall they scamper for quiet safety.
