And finally it happened. Did my flight test on Friday the 13th, finished my online exams, went to RAASA and got the little orange book that says I am licenced to fly my trike on my own...........WHAT A FEELING!!!!!!!!!!.
Thanks to Bossi Bosman , my instructor for spending plenty hours with me in the air, in the hanger and at his house. Plenty instructors could teach me to fly, but Bossi taught me to fly safe.
I decided to do a couple of extra hours before taking a passenger. Flew two 100km and one 80km cross country trips. Took my girlfriend up this morning for a trip to the Vaaldam and back. What a feeling, spending 69 minutes between her lovely legs, watching the scenery and flying past the dam wall etc. Hit about 15 minutes of turbulence, but not to bad.
I still think that I was more nervous the first morning I went to the airfield on my own , then the morning of my solo!
I had the good fortune to have two engine outs during my solo hours.The first one at 50 feet after take off en the second at 300 feet . I also had the good fortune of having a great instructor who made me practice engine outs so much that I was actually hoping for it to happen (untill it did). The first one at 50 feet was a blurr and I functioned purely on instinct, putting it down safely . The second one was relaxed as I had the height and ample time to do what needed to be done.But there is nothig that focus a pilots mind as instantly as that 582 going quiet behind you!!!
And looking at my license and listening to the old manne i realise that I actually know nothing and will not learn all in a lifetime.But what better classroom as the one 1500 feet up with the noise of the 582 behind me and the windlass profile tube in front of me and the advise of the old manne in my ears.
WHAT A FEELING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
