This led Ranger to devising a backing plate that would be threaded with a nice fine thread (not self tapping as is normally used). But the challenge comes in how you get it into the tank.
So this is what came up. Create a round backing plate, with holes etc, shave two of the sides down. Cut a slot in the plastic that equals this new shaved down plate width.
Then pass the plate through, maybe using a string to stop you from dropping it, position at the back, place the rubber/cork gasket over the top, add the fuel level sender and screw the whole lot together
